Default XK8 Hunting need help w/ OBD Codes

Hello
Been searching for a very clean, no issues XK8 as an occasional car club driver. Five or six times a year, local tour maybe 1000 miles a year. The Tiger is just too uncomfortable and the MGB too too short with a top up.
Owned a S Type R a few years ago. Had a running battle with the Limp Home, Performance Restricted mode due to a vacuum leak. Much money and time never solved the issue.
In my search for a XK8 ( 4.0 or 4.2) what scanner codes do I run away from?
Have been lucky twice so far on candidates that admit to similar problems including a hose under the intake manifold. Dealers typically offer no paper history such as replacement of secondary tensioners, water pump, hoses.
BTW need to replace my scanner, any suggestions for a basic unit?
I have cash in hand for a clear title and immediate possession of car with in 500 miles of Nashville.

I count 2 QUESTIONS and 1 'Wanted to Buy' ADVERTISEMENT in your post.

Q1. I'd worry a lot more about a potential purchase not having history than having codes.

Q2. You'll find advice on member recommended scan tools in this thread:

A1. The place for advertisements is CLASSIFIEDS:

One topic in a thread is the best approach.
