Default XK8 Major Oil Leak

So last night my hubby and I pulled out of the garage, drove our 99 XK8 20 miles into Bellingham, made two stops, and drove home. Upon arrival home, my husband let me exit the car in the driveway before pulling it into the garage, where I turned on the light and we found an oil puddle about 5-6 inches in diameter where the car had been at rest before we'd pulled out earlier. And from there you could see the drip every foot or so of yet more oil that occurred as we'd backed out earlier. We didn't notice the Check Engine light, if it came on, while away. And there was no burning smell, but the dip stick showed the oil reservoir empty. Without turning the engine back on, we pushed the car into the garage. Obviously we'll have to have it towed to our mechanic.

BUT what the heck is going on? Is this a known problem?

I believe you have a oil line leak and yes it is a know problem. It could be an "O" ring at the block or the lines going to and from the oil cooler.
You may have just got lucky by letting you out of the car and you being observant.
Do not drive or start the car, well done.

Wink

Thanks! We'll pray that it's just an o-ring, that's probably easier and less expensive than replacing seals. I know my husband is seeing $$$$.

Btw, I get no credit for being let out in the driveway, except for the part where I have bought so much wine for our cellar that it's stacked between the two cars and the Jag's wing-span is such that I can't get in or out on the passenger side EXCEPT in the driveway. Speaking of wine, we hadn't planned any with dinner last night but after getting the car parked a good Chablis came in very handy.
