Default XK8 Oil Cooler Repair

Has anyone ever had an oil cooler repaired?

Recently, the one on my 2003 XK8 developed a small leak, probably bit by a curb. I replaced the oil cooler, but I was thinking of taking the old one to a radiator shop to see if it could be turned into a useable spare. Is this worth a try?

How many lbs of pressure would the repair have to withstand?

What about using ‘a bypass pipe that was fitted to XJ8s’ to the XK8? Is this a practical idea? Has anybody tried it? If so, does anyone have a part number?

Thank you for the help…

Bob

Something else a few of us have done is to move the rubber clamp mounts (with the two screws) above the bracket instead of below. This gives another inch or so of clearance and a little extra insurance against hitting a curb.

Since it is an oil cooler, the working pressure required would be 120 psi max to account for cold start. Not much in the world of hydraulics.

If it is aluminum, then you need someone who can weld aluminum. It would have to be flushed first.

Or, you can try JBWELD after scrupulous cleaning.

The cheapest approach is to just clean it, bag it and stash it away for a rainy day without repairing it.
