Default XK8 oil dip stick

Pulled out the dip stick and checked the oil. When I went to put it back in it sticks about 1/2 inch from sealing. Tried twisting it, pushing it so what's up with the dip stick?
Thanks...

Billieg,

What Model Year XK8? I presume the dip stick isn't badly bent. Bad news for you is that it's a tough job getting to where the dip stick tube goes into the oil sump. Access is really bad!

The dip stick is probably fouling on something in the oil sump - maybe plastic bits that have fallen off the chain tensioners. Only way to be sure is to take off the oil sump and check.

Your 2004 won't have plastic tensioners so David's worst case scenario can fortunately be scaled back. Are you inserting it in the orientation shown?

90 degrees to this and it will baulk.

Thank you for the pic. I have a 2006. After looking at the pic I went and looked at it again. It only wants to go in one way. I pushed a little harder on it and it clicked bak in. I don't think you should have to push that hard though. Again, thanks for the help.
