OOPS. I leave the cap off after starting, but only for a minute.

Fair does, makes sense, I'll stick to tractors. I've always done the same as RJ237 on other cars though.
Good news that it does look like the rad needed burping.

Guys I am experiencing g an overheating problem myself!the xk8 will idle at regular temp.as soon as you accelerate the temperature spikes! I am getting a code referring to air lock.What should I do next?

Air lock code? The ECM is more sophisticated than I thought. I would suspect a blockage in the cooling system, pump failure or thermostat not opening. The overheating problem I referred to recurred at idle and was definitely air lock.
Did you just drain and refill the system? That is when an air lock is likely. Please give the code.

Which tensioner did you replace, the belt tensioner? If so, did you route the belt correctly? If not, you may have a slipping belt and a slow, slipping waterpump. In some cases, the waterpump can be turned backwards if the belt is done wrong. I'm not sure that is possible with this car, having not tried it, but the loose belt is sure possible. It is also possible that the harmonic balancer has failed and is slipping, casuing th ebelt to act as if it is slipping.

Oldmots, vettirod does not mention replacing anything, just an overheating problem.
