Default XK8 seat back release knob and escutcheon copies

Greetings, A few weeks ago I started a thread regarding my search for the seat back release knob and escutcheon. Others responded that they too are seeking these parts with little to no success. I may have found a couple of escutcheons in teal, which is better than nothing although my interior is cream (NDR), but this little piece of thin cheap plastic is $60.00 ea. I did find charcoal knobs at $33.00 each. Well, I'm an engineer and my friend and I, also an engineer, believe we can reverse engineer these parts and fabricate them. We would do so in a neutral color so folks could paint or dye them as desired. We would like to gauge the level of interest from my fellow XK8 owners to see if creating these items would benefit many of us. Frankly, to undertake the engineering and fabrication for a pair of knobs and escutcheons is not worth the effort. However, if there is sufficient interest from our group I will detail our thoughts, estimate the prices, and seek feedback from interested parties. Thanks for your time and consideration. Regards, Ken

I painted a set off of an 80s VW 2 door anything. They are a little deeper, and you need to take the clip out also, but the guy at the Pick-n-pull gave them to me, since they were just junk plastic parts to him. Unless you are wanting to win a concours, they function just fine, and snap or glue right in place......Mike

Thanks Mike, I am cruising the VW sites as I write. They look like a very good, and cost effective, solution. I appreciate you sharing this information! Regards, Ken

Hi Mike, I acquired a set of late '70's VW escutcheons and they turned out to be a little too long to fit in the depression and too narrow to cover the two screws normally hidden by the Jaguar escutcheon. Do you recall what year and model number of VW donated the parts you used successfully? Thanks very much. Regards, Ken

WOW, I miss typed or spell checker went nuts. The word "numerally" should have been "normally". Ken

Are you going to 3D print them? I'd be interested in driver and passenger sets. But, black material and smooth finish would be best to have.

Greetings Cyber3d and all others. As of this writing Cyber3d is the only individual who has expressed interest in reproduction escutcheons - other than myself. Possible options could be 3D printing if the right material is available (thermal stability and sufficient mechanical characteristics), or creating one master part and then using a simple silicone mold to create Urethane copies. Other possibilities are available, but if the interest level turns out to be a set for me and one or two other folks it just isn't worth the effort or costs. Thanks for your interest! Ken
