Default XK8 Tires

Is there a tire that is less expensive then the manual recommended Pirelli that will give a comparable or maybe better ride on a xk8?

Thanks

Lots of choices available. I ended up with Yokohama YK580's and have been very satisfied.

Michelin Pilot Sports and Hankooks are mentioned often here.

Another vote for the Yokohama YK580. Been running them on my wife's 2006 XK8 since 2012. Always a comfortable ride and they have never hydroplaned on her, even during massive downpours on the interstates. Available only at Discount Tire. Be sure to have them Hunter Road Force Balanced, and be sure to run the rear tires at 28 to 29 psi for maximum treadlife. The front tires are good at 32 to 33 psi....

I have Khumo (spelling) tires on mine. We don't drive the car a ton of miles per year wise so I like the savings over some of the more pricey tires.

If you don't drive your car much, you should still change your tires every 4 or 5 years, because the tread gets harder, and adhesion is compromised. You can always sell your old ones to someone with a non-performance vehicle, that wouldn't notice the difference in ride or adhesion......Just what I have heard from tire guys(not salesmen).......Mike

I can guarantee if you run the rears at 32 or more they WILL wear out the center tread in short order.

Default XK8 Tires

I just put on a set of extremely sticky Federal 595RPM 255x45ZR-18s. Hard to find over here bit worth the trouble IMO.

I went with Federals front and rear. Non directional too boot so I can rotate of my staggered set up.

I put on a set of General GMax AS03 in February. I don't drive a lot so these are okay for me.

I have had the NEXEN N3000's for over 3 years on my XK8, great tire. I also just put a set of 20" on my 2008 XJR and man what a ride improvement, even my wife commented on how much quitter and smoother the ride was.

I replaced Eagles that were on the blue cat. They did have good tread life and held in the wet, but the Yokohama YK580's perform better in every way.

Lots of good choices. FYI, Tire Rack has a special right now on the tire I chose, the Continental ExtremeContact DWS at $169 each. Very happy w. this tire after 5k miles - quiet, responsive yet good riding, and with good treadlife, too. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....K8&autoModClar=

I have the DWS's as well. What air pressure have you determined works best for these? I have been running them at 28 front, 30 rear.

Presently running 35 PSI F/R - not much penalty re harshness & it just feels more responsive vs. lower pressures.

I would agree about the responsiveness, but better watch closely for premature wear on the rear set. They burn tread much faster above 30psi.
