Default xkr 2000 valley hose issues after repair

Hi all- need some guidance here and a couple
of questions for the more experienced members.

i've posted a reply to another thread but decided to do a new one.

patient: jag xkr 2000 with 90k. had a leak for a while and decided to tackle the job during winter. Bough new valley hoses and jubilee hose clamps as well as all the usual suspect hoses- norma connector, octopus etc. also rebuilt supercharger and installed the improved seals and all new gaskets.

Heres my problem- when changing the valley hoses decided to re-use the factory tension clamps as somebody suggested jubilee clamps tend to loose tension over time. Well, car has been ok for a week though today it was around 70 and while doing a test drive pushed it a bit to maybe 90 mph for a short time. coming back home my temp measured at crossover pipe was around 205 and about 175 ish before thermostat.

shut down engine and was doing other chores around the house then 1 hour latter lo and behold- a puddle of coolant on the rear passenger side below car. it seems to be coming from the rearmost valley hose in the passenger side the one that goes into the fitting and norma conector/octopus hose.

of course im a bit frustrated after so much money and effort. at this point im thinking if the tension clamps are weak and not sealing well . has anybody experience problem with reusing factory clamps
and or any opinions or guidance regarding reuse of factory tension clamps versus using jubilee clamps?

ill try to check in the morning see if its really coming from the rear or if its the water pump hose .

finally; all seals are new - if end up having to take supercharger off can i reuse them or do i have to buy new ones ? specially the two donut seals which are quite expensive.

I've always reused the original clamps as they give a superior, even, seal. I'd guess something isn't seated right or you have another problem. Not sure which side of the car you mean when you refer to passenger side, as that depends on where in the world you are! I'd stick to 'left' and 'right'.

If it's the left, then it could be the coolant tank, as they can crack, but only leak under load. If you were replacing hoses and reused the tank, an old, weaker, tank could possibly have cracked from being worked on.

I've always re-used the original clamps where the replacement plumbing didn't come with any. Not had any leak issues.

Default xkr 2000 valley hose issues after repair

Sorry, the car is LHD. Before changing valley hoses leak was coming from driver side rear of engine.

Now after changing the valley hoses its coming from passenger side rear engine below hose clamp there.

Did have a hard time fitting that hose the first time, it didn't completely push into the nipple at the coolant crossover pipe so had to move the rear clamp a little forward but always within the stop or ridge at nipple. I can see its not leaking at the front on the crossover pipe hence chances are its the rear connection.
tempted to remove that clamp in the rear and install the jubilee one; in the crossover pipe thats what had to do because there was no clearance for the tool to install the factory clamp- its not leaking there. will check if my auto zone has a pressure test kit it should make life easier to tell exactly were that leak is . hope is the rear clamp as i can probably fix it there.

Default Possible Solution

I had what seems like the same type leak. A small puddle on the passenger side, LHD on my XK8. I guessed the valley hoses but the leak turned out to be at the throttle body. I assume the TB on the R is the same as the 8. There are two coolant hoses to the TB and the leak was on the lower hose. At some point a mechanic had replaced the hose with a hose that was not a OEM type hose but just bent a hose to fit and the jubilee clip had worked loose. Hard to see. A pressure tester may help to find the exact leak, auto part stores loan them out.

Default Partly solved- mostly happy!

thanks all for your feedback. Well , dumb me i had a clamp not fitted right on the top intercoolers right in my face. As soon as the pressure build up with the test set heard and located the leak . That was dumb but good, as also found two more leaks, one in the driver side front radiator to degas bottle hose which had ordered already and it seems the radiator has a small leak on the passenger side that cant locate - it may be cracked. Noticed that leak before but though it was leftover coolant in the radiator support dripping from changing upper lower. The new water pump is here , don't know if its good quality but may as well buy a radiator from rock auto.
