XKR 4.2 ¿Reprogramming or updating ECU?
Hi there!
My name is Javier, I'm 23, from Barcelona, Spain. I'll do my best with my english, which is far from being brilliant.
I am an owner of a modest VW Polo, love cars and mechanics and have some knowledge and experience on the automotive world.
My uncle and friend has a Jaguar XKR, the 4.2 liter 400bhp, I think it's around 6 or 7 years old? Maybe I'm wrong, but I mean, it's the previous model, not the one on sale now. My grandpa has a Daimler, which was bought a few years after the XKR, and supposed to have the same 4.2 liter supercharged 400bhp, if I'm not wrong. So, the thing is, the response of the Daimler engine, even though the car is heavier, is much better and intense. Obviously, we're wondering whether this is due to some loss in the XKR or it's just because the new engine has some good updates, which I think is the thing happening here...
So you can guess what's the question... I don't think there are major (or any) changes mechanically-wise between both engines, but I do think the ECU or something with the software has been updated.
¿Do you think we can just reprogram the XKR with the new software? ¿Is it a problem with the XKR engine and should be working identically? ¿If not, is there any brand that comercializes good reliable software for reprogramming Jag's? ¿Do you recommend it? I know Unitronic is good for Porsches and VW group, but I'm lost here... I hope I've been able to make an understandable writing...
Thanks a lot in advance for reading and helping me with your knowledge...

Hi Javier,
As far as I know, while there are many chips and programming devices available for other makes of car (GM, Ford, etc.) there is nothing readily available for Jaguar owners.
