Default XKR AJ26S oil pressure and possible oil temp switch?

Morning all.

Working on the heap yesterday (Before my oil cooler lines went I referred to it as a car.. its had its chances...). Replaced them with braided all round as second hand parts not reliable and new parts are increasingly hard to come by. All went pretty well except for the line to engine port, I have a leak there, will replace o rings and re-assess..

But, whilst there, and never noticed this before, by the oil pressure sensor there is another sensor, different colour to the pressure sensor. In my case it has no wiring going to it.

On the AJ26S (1999 XKR) I had thought there was no oil temp signal to ECU as oil temp isn't picked up by any reader including jag specific. So, this sensor has no function? Or have a lost a connector? Here is a picture taken from Jagwrangler instruction on how to install a pressure gauge sensor. I am considering this route after my old oil lines decided to leak.

Any idea?

On my 2005 XK8 the engine oil temperature is found in the same place on the reader and the transmission fluid temperature. My son did all the reader work as I drove and I know very little about them but I remember he had trouble finding it. I think the sensor on top is the temp, pressure on bottom.

I would be great to have details on how you fixed your cooler lines as that is on my to do list this winter. With lots of photos and specs.

Thanks

Jack

AJ26 has no oil temp sensor. The upper sump is different from the AJ27 that does have the sensor.
Maybe someone used an AJ27 block or upper sump on the AJ26 engine for this car?

Still baffled by this, was under the car again today (as per...) and see it clearly. No wires going to it. I have the cars full history and it does not mention any engine swap or sump/lower baffle plate swap.. very strange. Might be a handy place for me to take up an oil pressure sensor in order to monitor for oil leaks from the oil cooler lines.

Speaking of which, I basically took the old oil cooler lines off. The interface metal hose that goes to the two engine ports was separated from the oil lines. I then had someone weld on an AN10 stainless steel bung so that I could then put the PTFE braided steel lines on from there to a new cooler. I bought a 10 Row Mocal oil cooler. Pretty much the same size as the original but allows you to put a -10 fitting on so the braided hose from the AN10 bung to the cooler was simplified.

Bought 3m of braided hose, had about 0.5M left at the end.

Feed line is much easier than the return as I was able to do it direct from the engine to the cooler.

Return line was trickier as I had to use 2 90 degree fittings to mimic the original lines where they do 2 x 90 degree turns. Probably would use 2 60 degree turns as the fittings are quiet long and had to extend the bracket out that size to make for a clear path with no chafing or rubbing.

Need to do the o rings on the engine port to pipe as i think they are old and leaking from there... either that or the AN10 bung isnt fully sealed when welded.. Will investigate

I wonder if during that changeover year when both the AJ27 and the AJ26S were being made, Jaguar mixed and matched parts on the production line, before going exclusively to the AJ27 the following year?
