Default XKR Autocrossers???

I cringe at the thought of thrashing Kitty around a parking lot or airport,
but, ...

I was wondering: Does anyone auto cross their car? What stock class do we compete in? What other cars are in that class, and are we competitive?

If you find a club in the DC area, let me know - I'd be interested. All I've seen so far that involves Jaguars are either antique car clubs or groups of bluehairs who want to hang out and shoot the bull but do little else (hope that doesn't offend anyone but we all know it's true!)

Truth be told, the cars would probably not be all that competitive. It would be in the same class as a Corvette, 911 or other true sports car (i.e., something involving a clutch and stiffer suspension). That said it all comes down to the driver so who knows - you could win a few.

You could always do the track days at Summit Point Raceway. This being stated, there is autocrossing in the DC area but, for the life of me, I can't remember the details. the subject came up while attending a Sunday morning cars & coffee gig in Burtonsville. MD.

Will do Burg. When I raced many years ago, it was just with the SCCA. There always seemed to be a club nearby no matter where I was stationed.

Why the interest in DC? Your profile says NH. (Which by the way, is where my car was last owned before me)

I bounce back and forth between locations. I know for sure there are clubs up in the northeast region but I know squat about this area other than a bunch of overpaid government types with fancy cars and no idea what to do with them-!

I attended one hosted by the local Jag group, a bunch of white hairs, and it was constant action. A Jag-phile friend I brought, declined to take his turn with my car and instead flogged it on some open asphalt. He came back with some helpful observations that made driving the low speed course more fun.

The club allowed other makes to participate and they were a few including an MB e63 expertly piloted by a white hair XKR owners middle aged son. Smoke on demand that MB was.

I will never forget a convertible v8 TR owner offering me to ride along with him and that was a hoot.

My final attempt in my XKR coupe was my best and the small audience gave a nice round of applause which capped the experience perfectly.

Hmmm. I should go back, it has been nearly two years!

Thanks Weisberg. Did you run with the DSC on or off? How much of problem was it not having a limited slip diff?

Track day would be fun for sure. But if I remember correctly - we're limited to 155 mph. I've driven her up to 135; smooth as silk. 155 should be similar. She could probably do 185 (10 mph faster than I've ever gone). THAT would be interesting. Of course, there's no way I'd try that with the merely normal tires I have now!

Just wondering, how does the transmission on an xk hold up to being pounded on a track?

These cars a real high speed GTs.
I topped it off once at 155 and I'm confident she could go much more giving how little effort was required to get there.

I posted my results up from the dc benz club last nov. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...l-size-102838/

Car does better than I thought it would, even in a steady rain with worn summer tires on it. I'm thinking about going down to the autox there on april 13th. Welcome | Mercedes-Benz Club of America

great group to run with if you can make it work. You'll see some classic benz barges geting the snot beat out of them as ANY car should get from time to time IMHO. Usually get more runs then an scca event. Will probably take the xjr this time as she's got tires that are ready to be replaced. If your interested let me know and I'll get you some details.

The XKR runs in "L" class in the Jag slalom. Done it once......Got lucky and took first place. Ran with traction control off.

I can't imagine dicing with Miatas and 944s in a parking lot- it's just not happening (very well). Now a track day, hell yes.

Which leads me to a thought I had the other day- are there strut braces and sway bars available for these things? I'm sure there are coilovers, but that would help make for a rather enjoyable experience methinks.

Hi Weisberg! Good news for you: There's a DC SCCA club, WDCR. They race at FedEx Field.

WDCR Home

DC is a bit of a hike for me - over an hour - but who knows, I might just stop in someday. I'll tell yo what though: It looks like they have a much more polished program than the one I raced with in South Texas (circa - mid eighties(!) Yikes)
