XKR condensor change
Hi All,
I am going to swop out the condenser on my 01 XKR. I was wondering if those who have done this job in the past could offer up some advice.
1. I assume it is easier if the hood is removed, not just put in the service position? Has anyone removed their hood, any issues realigning it after?
2. Will an off the shelf o-ring kit suffice or do I need to pay the dealer $67 for 6-8 o-rings ( another reason my Jag will never see the inside of an OEM shop)
3. Given I have decent mechanical capabilities can this job be done in 8-12 hours not including the refrigerant refill.
Regards,
Karl

Hi Karl,
1. The service position provided ample clearance for me, you need to determine what you're comfortable with.
2. I wouldn't pay the ransom for a set from the dealer, but an off the shelf o-ring may not be right either. If you get these from a parts supplier, and they are made for A/C system, should be OK, but ask what they are made of. But without a material spec, you may find these to be cheap rubber, and for long life under chemical exposure, this is not what you need. Find rings in neoprene. Silicone, VITON, may be suitable, but at additional cost (may still be less than dealer).
All the best,
Jerry Lippmann
