Default XKR Exhaust Tips

Will the stock XKR exhaust tips fit on the stock XK8 exhaust pipes after their stock tips are removed? If not, what's the best clone?

There's lots of good options, just need to hacksaw yours off and weld new ones on. The 'center muffler removal' thread has lots of pics of various tips, look to see which size you like and ask for the measurements. We're always happy to help someone else spend their money

I just found some OEM XKR exhaust tips from a salvage yard so I'll give those a try.

I checked out that thread, and all the others that were mentioned on it, and found it very informative. My exhaust is still stock, so should I just replace the center muffler with an H-pipe and leave everything else alone? Should the diameter of the H-pipe be different than the rest of the system to avoid losing power?

If you are talking quads then no, if it is a single tip then yes, Jaguar actually use to do a 3" removable tip for the optional big bore systems.

As to your question, the same size pipe would be fine, just dont go smaller and cause a restriction

Do you think a muffler shop could figure out a way to weld the quads onto my XK8 tailpipes?

No

The prob is on an XK8 the pipe comes out of the middle of the box and S bends to the corner, on an R they come out straight from the corner, you either have to fit aftermarket boxes/bypass pipe or an R rear box

There's about 4.5 inches of straight pipe aft of the S turn, that's not enough to attach a quad?

How are you going to deal with the extra wide cut-out in the rear bumper?

These are my two openings, they measure a touch over 6 inches across the bottom and range from 3 to 4 inches in height from outside to inside.

Do they look sufficient to you? The bumper needs painting, could always have the body shop open them up a bit. Or, could hang them a touch low, like my left tailpipe is, open them up a little that way.

No, the quad tips are a good 10" long from end to tip (I seem to remember having a similar conversation with my wife )

They will stick out way past the bumper, I have fitted quad tips to earlier cars and they have fitted in the bumper.... Just!

I see. I can still get the box and the pipe from the same car the quads came off of. I'll see how tight the fit is and see if I still want to do this. It's getting involved lol...

I suppose I could also get the rear bumper off the salvage XKR as well (the accident involved the front), assuming the rear sensors and the fit are compatable. That would take care of the openings, and be better than cutting on the existing valence and having a so-so looking area there. Any other concerns there, Tony?

The side mounts are different on the rear bumper, easy to fit though, all that is different is you have a plastic T shaped block your existing bumper fits on to, the later 05 uses a bolt with a large washer.

Both types fit on the same bracket hanging down from your bodywork, in simple terms, yes everything will fit!!!

Excellent. This one's an '04, so should be a good match then.

The 04 does have a different size mounting on the inside of the bumper but fits on to the same set up on the car as all previous models, so no probs there

Turns out the salvage yard needs to sell the bumper along with all its mounts, reinforcement, bumper shocks, etc so their price for all that would be $1400 vs Jaguar's price of $5,000. That's way more than I can justify, so I'm now looking anywhere else for just the cover.

Are you planning on paint as well, Skid? Starting out exhaust tips and potentially getting into paint...sounds like a classic case of "mission creep," and something I can TOTALLY identify with.

The scope of the undertaking is definatly expanding. Paint would certianly come into play if we had to enlarge the openings to accomidate the quads. The straight vs S pipe issue can be delt with a couple of ways, but at additional cost also.

I can always shelve the tips for some other time, like when the rear mufflers need replacing, and then allow for a long enough straight pipe at that time. It's only an $80 investment at this point, and the tips I have now look fine, so it's not an urgent matter.

Now that buzzing Drive Shaft of mine, THAT's an urgent matter lol.

Why not get some custom tips that fit the opening and have a similar look to the XKR tips? That seems like the easiest route to go to me.

What would be a good choice? I looked around and didn't have any luck.
