There are a number of post and threads on the replacement of the fuel pump and removing the tank,do a search.
Also download a copy of the JTIS that you can find in one of the stickys.
By the way,you have two pumps.
I been there and done it,take your time and you will get it done, just a little dirty and sweaty.

we have a link in the FAQ thread of the XK8/R forum... you have to dowload files, unzip, and it'll require you to burn a CD. If that doesn't work for you, or too much trouble, do a search on ebay for JTIS or jaguar TIS, and you'll get CD options for under $10

Default 2002 xkr convert. fuel pump

Thanks for your help! How is the tank held in place. Where are the bolts to take it out. I have a top access plate but isee no way that one can get the plate and pump, due to lack of clearance.

Coupes have strap ,coverts do not.GET A COPY OF JTIS AND IT HAS ALL THE THINGS YOU WILL NEED TO DO ON BOTH THE CONVERT AS WELL AS THE COUPE.You will also have to get under the car and remove the fuel lines before you can remove the tank. Please check on how to use the search function. It's in the new members area, also please look over the General area.

No Problem Gus,I just pull up my Alldata and checked it and it mentioned .the straps but you will see (Coupe). I also did this project on my XKR.What someone is trying to do is to do the job without JTIS(which can be gotten n/c on this forum) or Alldata. If you remove closing panel.remove the fuel lines, release and remove the fuel gaiter, drain hose, electical connector, breather hose etc,you will be able to pull out the tank,oh by the way, drain the tank before remove the tank. Also Charles Bennett did a great job on the details of project which you have linked to on your site.

Default Fuel pump replacement XKR 2000

Today, I learned that the XK8 gas-tank removal procedure does not apply to the XKR /2000. The XKR has a heat shield on-top of the differential that hiddes the fuel lines going into the tank. I am going crazy trying to figure out how to do it. It looks like the differential will need to come down. Crazy, even by Jaguar standards!

Member "bgoldstucker," I just did this (Fuel Pump Replacement) two weeks ago on my 2003 XKR.

There is precious little room above the diff. to get your hands, tools etc through and past the heat shield and the access hole in the floor of the trunk - but you CAN do it! Though, I must say, it's by far the most frustrating part of the job.

Member "AVOS" in posts number 52 and 56 of this thread

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...tunists-61394/

shows how to make a special tool that would have made this job MUCH easier for me.

Make the tool and proceed carefully - You CAN do it! A person to help you on the top side while you are laying on your back, squeezing your hands into places that will scrape them up - and then fill the scratches with greasy dirt would be helpful too.

I attempted to pull the tank on my 99 XK8, and it's pretty difficult job on your back. You just cannot maneuver around, and it's a dirty job. It's a 2.7 hour on the base rate manual.

Luckily, we can get Jag mechanic work done @ $50 per hour. Including a roll back ride to the shop, it was well worth $190 to get it done. The older fuel pump is off a Taurus, and it was something like $58 @ RockAuto.com. Autozone wanted $98 for the part. Then, you have to get a "sock" and a fuel pump at the same time.

I'm just thankful I found a local shop that has Jag experience for such a reasonable rate. For the more difficult problems, I'd take the car to Memphis to a 23 year Jag dealer mechanic that grew up across the street from my wife.

I'm pretty good at this job, having it done it on two different cars. I'm also very cheap. There is no way I would do this job for $190 labor. If you can pay that, pay it and smile!

On my car, I bought the Airtex pumps and both leads from the dealer (pumps were $50 for a pair at the time with all the crap like the sock and clamps and such; wires were $50 each). It's a doable job, but definitely more trouble than $190.

I'm faced with the same thing.

Luckily for me, a previous owner already created the easy-access top hatch mod that avoids pulling the gas tank.

The mod is described here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-access-118362

If he hadn't already created this, I was prepared to do so.

Here's a pic

I did the access plate hole as well on my '97 XK8. This should have been done at the factory. I got a $20 pump off ebay and it works great! I sold the '97 in March and now have a 2001 that is still at the paint shop. I'll post pics as soon as I get it back.

Sanchious, wow great photo. It'll help me when I have to do the job. Would you mind posting the hole's diameter?

Thanks, John

Forum Members (yes you!) that respond to people who come to the forum for help, instructions, clarity and who are feeling desperate, in over their heads and are told to - GO ON LINE AND LOOK IT UP,,,,, or paste a link,,,, need to understand what a forum is about and,,,, get their heads right. Jus say'n

Telling people to follow a link and go figure out AIN'T forum-ing... It's lazy, snobby and trifle vanguard-ish corny..
