Default XKR lost its memory and now is undrivable!

Our 2006 XKR was purchased from a private owner six weeks ago and they only had one key and remote fob. We were worried about this especially at our age we both are becoming very forgetful. In response we called the Jaguar dealer and made an appointment to get another key. At the dealer they took our key and checked it and ordered a new one and returned our key to us along with an appointment for the new one in 10 days.
When we returned they took the car into the garage saying it would be done in just a few minutes. 3 hours later we were still waiting, when the Service Advisor came to us and said that they were having a problem programming the new key to our car and thanked us for our patience. After three more hours the Service Advisor came over and told us that something had gone wrong and that all the memory in the car's computer was gone and they were unable to find the proper code. Needless to say the car was undrivable and they gave us a ride home and wern't sure when they would get it running again. We are now waiting to get our car back and wonder how much this going to cost!!!

If they try to charge you anything get a lawyer, this is entirely their problem.

+1 to the above. Dealer screwed it up and they need to fix it.

Bet you’re worried, but it’s their problem. Chill! I suspect they fried the electrics (SLCM module?) or they have just forgotten how to deal with a 20 year old car with old electrical systems. Bet they’re emailing HQ!

Reason No. 1,247 to avoid the dealerships with these cars. They no longer know how to properly service them. There is only one Jaguar dealership in North Carolina that I trust, and that is because they still employ a couple of master techs who have more than 30 years of service under their belts....

Thanks for the uplifting messages I truly hope they feel the same way. Incidentally I was mechanic at this dealer in 1973 and 1974 but no one I knew back then is there any longer. I just want to drive my Jag some more!

I just screwed up programming my 07 X150 XKR keys recently with SDD. I fixed it myself but I had to find what modules weren't communicating with each other. Basically, my car cleared the keys out of the cluster, but did not persist the keys after if was trying to resync them. Basically I went from 1 to 0 keys... I ended up having to initialize the Instrument Cluster as a new module, then I could program and persist my 3 keys. I'm extremely glad I have a MongoosePro JLR cable, SDD 1.5.6 instance, and the constant power supply to just do all this crap myself. Dealers may do a good job, but I'm always paranoid that it'll be bring car, open wallet, assume the out of warranty service position. Obviously the key programming process is different on X100 vs X150, but the fear and service position comments are definitely the same!

Everything I've learned about SDD, read about on the forum, even from Jaguar techs, is that success is highly variable and dependent on the quality of the user of the software. It's not necessarily highly user friendly in my opinion, but you figure it out as you fumble around. I'd curious what the dealer comes back with later; but the time spent so far is their problem, the techline time they will spend and pay for is their problem, and time spent to resolve going forward is their problem. Otherwise, lawyer time. You should pay the already quoted price for getting a key done; parts + 1-2 hours labor rate.

Dealer tried to charge me $170 to program a new key, they took 3 days and I only paid $40. I suspect they will make it right, especially if they ever intend to make a customer out of you.

I've found that most Jag dealers are less than enthusiastic about our older models. Most of them don't have "old-time" mechanics who would have worked on the X100's when they were new. They're more focused on factory recalls and known problems which they can turn around fairly quickly, which includes ready access to repair parts. And don't get me started on their markups for parts!

My local dealer will not service anything pre-2010. This is because the original dealer was bought and relocated and they did not preserve any of the employees, tooling, or apparently, software. They will gladly sell parts to me, but they wouldn’t even attempt an oil and filter change.

Quite frankly, I think it is appalling that they don’t lookout for owners of older models and I think that is unbecoming from a dealer that sells luxury cars.
