Presuming that you're in the UK, a quick search of google reveals

https://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/apps/rec...efault.asp?tx=

Any Jag dealer will know if they've been done or not.

All articles I've ever seen = case by case. No recall involved.

A recall is a safety issue and is mandated/monitored by the local authority. Tech/reliability issues are done via OEM service bulletins. Some are covered by extended warranties, the vast majority are not.

Engines going 'bang' are not a safety item.

Thanks Johnken!
How can you tell if its had its engine replaced? i went and looked at a few over the holidays and couldn't see anything in the engine bay. I've read that there is a identifying plaque in the engine bay but couldn't see anything? any clues where it is and what it looks like?

The pre-2003 engines were 4.0L and some had sporadic nikasil issues. No problem with the 4.2L engines fitted in 2003 and newer.

Is that the issue you're referring to?

Calli, could you get us centered ? Say a little more about your perspective, are you looking for a new car, replacing a blown engine . . .

I think something is unstated, so it's hard to help you track down the answers mate.

Thanks john

It's now more than 11 years since XK8/XKR production ceased (on 27th May 2005 at VIN A48684 with a Frost Blue XKR 4.2S Coupe which was handed over to Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust collection). The very last of these vehicles have been out of warranty for over 6 years and it will be a rare example that still has a continuous Jaguar Dealer service history from new.

Vehicle recalls in the UK are almost exclusively safety related and for Jaguar, this has been a rarity. Such repairs are mandatory.

As with most manufacturers, they usually only apply warranty repairs as a result of component failure or of customer complaint. A recall is unusual.

The only source of this data is Jaguar and no dealer is going to release the information except to the current owner of the vehicle.

This is the warranty history on my current XK:

Even with the data, it takes some detective work to interpret the program Codes and Causal Parts.

Far more relevant when assessing a potential purchase of a 10 year old Jaguar is a comprehensive service history, preferably backed up with a thick file of receipts.

Graham

The Nikasil engines stopped production in 2000 - that was 17 years ago. Any that are still running are up to 20 years old, so I don't think I would be worrying too much about Nikasil now.

You can tell lots but where are you going (very very slowly) with the questions? If you say a lot more it'll not take the months it so far may!
