XKR Tyre recommendations
Having bought my XKR just over a week ago I really need to sort out some new tyres as the ones on it are mismatched (2 x Nexen, 1 x Roadstone, 1 x Triangle!). My local tyre company have recommended Nexens but I've seen a few poor reviews on other (non Jag) forums while searching.
1) Does anyone have real-world experience of Nexens they could share before I part with yet more of my hard-earned?
2) If not Nexens, then what would be a good choice? I don't want to break the bank, but I also don't want to wreck the car for want of decent grip...
Wheels are 20" Wheelmania, 285/30 R, 255/35 F.
Sorry if this has been asked before. :-)

I don't know enough about tyres to recommend any*, but in my searching a few months ago I found that mytyres.co.uk seems to be a lot cheaper than blackcircles, asda tyres, etc.
* I paid £290 delivered and fitted for a pair of Dunlop Sport Maxx RT (18") on the above website. I'm happy with them, but people who know better will be able to point you to the right tyres.

I have had two sets of Nexen 3000's on my 2002 XKR, and I like them a lot. I currently have a third set of Nexens (I don't recall the model number) that are not as aggressive as the 3000's, but the 3000's weren't available at the time I needed tires. They are very, very reasonably priced, handle very well, and are not noisy. I would recommend them without hesitation.

Toyos working well
I put Toyos on my 18" stock wheels almost a year ago. Had a little wandering on very flat roads for the first few hundred miles. Just didn't track as reliably straight as it had before. Checked alignment and kept driving. It's now fine.
The one problem I've had is that they do flatspot. If I park with hot tires and get right up to highway speeds when restarting after they've cooled (couple hours or overnight) I can feel the flat spots for a couple miles. Once the tires warm up they're fabulous.
They don't chirp as much as my old tires. They just seem to grip. Paid $1200 for the set, mounted, force balanced, and a ridiculously long warranty (don't remember at the moment - 30K or 50K miles) through Les Schwab Tire Center.

Hi Paul,
One word - NO. Do not fit nexens to your XK. I have a 2003 XKR with 20" wheels. When I bought it in May last year it came with near new Nexen n'fera SU1's - 255/35 F and 285/30 R. The tyres are OKish, quiet, reasonably priced but nothing special for a car like the XK. Spend more money and get some tyres that the car deserves especially if you like to use the power and press on.
I've run the same Nexens on my business car in the past - Mazda 6 Touring TD (19" 225/45) and they were OK for that use but for a performance car you need something better, much better. I also have a 2012 Mazda RX8 Spirit R. It has 19" wheels and came with Bridgestone 225/40 tyres. Handled like a go-kart but oh so much road noise. I have recently replaced the tyres with Michellin PS4+ (245/35) and what a difference. Quieter and talk about cornering - it has so much grip it's scary. I'm not brave enough (or good enough) to find the limits of grip.
When the Nexens on my XK wear out I will be looking to other brands but I don't know what. 20" tyres in the sizes needed are not cheap but with the mileage I do in the car (<2,000km/yer) spending more on decent tyres will be worth it as they won't need replacing for a few years. Meanwhile I'll put up with the Nexens.
Cheers
Mike

Pilot Sport 4S tires are a great choice, just put a set on my car, but $$$. Pretty much everyone at the tire shop agreed they were the best tire I could buy. Doesn't sound like you drive the car much in the cold anyway?

I've just ordered a set of these for the old girl as the existing PS boots have aged out
