I've got to have my windshield replaced, but the installer said my part is different than most of the others for the XKR, since it has some unusual option. The only option it has that I can think of is rain sensing wipers, but he said there was something different about this version and this particular windshield is only available through the dealer, not aftermarket.

I don't doubt the installer as he's well regarded in this area, and I know for sure Safelite and other national chains won't have it, but are there different types of options for a windshield besides rain sensors? What could be different about the coupes, or the 2003 version? He said even the clips for this one are different - won't fit. Just curious.

I don't recall reading anything about differences in the basic shape but do recall the shape of the black shading around the rear view mirror is different for rain sensing and/or auto head lights.

I think it has to do with the provisions for the day/night rear view mirror as well as a compass. The area where the mirror mounts is a different shape than most, apparently.

 

Had mine replaced by Safelite about 7or 8 months ago. I don't have the heated windshield but do have rain sensing. They had replacement clips, but the trim surround has to be re-used. Cost me about $250.00 installed as I recall.
