xkr won't rev over 3krpm in neutral ?

First read the OBD codes then tell us what codes you have.

I believe that is because of the rev limiter. Just so you (or I) don't inadvertently over rev it and put pistons through the neighbors garage wall...

What you describe is normal, it's mentioned on page 3-17 of my XJ driver's handbook:

"When in Neutral or Park the engine can only be accelerated to 3000 rev/min (supercharged models only)."

Problem solved! Now, put it in DRIVE and repeat the test. Now, where's that smiley of the car peeling out... crap, insert it here.
