Jaguar Land Rover underscores its commitment to ‘Race to Innovate’ using the Formula E electric racing car championship as a platform to support development of next generation electric powered road cars.

The season opener for Formula E is happening this weekend in Hong Kong, October 9th, and Jaguar is making it’s return to motorsport with their first ever Formula E effort. Formula E, being a relatively new racing series, has quite an open rule book, and allows the different teams and manufacturers much leeway in designing their powertrains and suspension setups. The only real common shared part is the standardized carbon fiber chassis and batteries.

The Panasonic Jaguar Racing I-TYPE features an MGU (Motor Generated Unit) with a maximum power output of 200kW (270bhp) and with a maximum speed of 140mph. Power is delivered via a Jaguar Racing paddle-shift sequential gearbox.
