Default buzzing noise behind drivers seat, like a small motor engaging. Any ideas?

I'm getting an intermittent buzzing sound - like that of a small electric motor going on and off behind the drivers seat. The noise lasts for maybe 5-10 seconds and then is off for a few minutes maybe less. I'm not finding any correlations yet with driving situations.

It sounds almost like a trunk motor re securing the rear trunk latch. I'll be taking it in to the dealer, was wondering if anyone else had experienced something similar? Thanks mates!

the sound might come from the vacuum pump of the active exhaust .
Well known problem on MJ14 and MJ15 cars.

A fairly easy fix if that's the problem. They'll just remove the pump and pipe the muffler valves straight to the vacuum line as they are on the MY16+.

The only warning my mechanic gave me was that the vacuum line that replaces the pump is an exposed line under the car and (at least on MY14/15) there is a small risk that the line could get cut and road debris or water gets sucked into the motor. Admittedly, that's a hyper protective opinion.

This.

Just went though it with mine, but decided to leave it alone after talking about it with my shop. The tech didn't think the "fix" was as clean as it should be.

Does anyone have a doc or pc that shows exactly what is done?

Thanks,

Mike

Thanks guys! So are you saying that the Jaguar dealer/shop is not viewing this as a recall/factory fix? Or is that the factory recommended fix? Those MY's are under warranty still.

As I understand it, Nothing is mechanically broken. It's an acoustic issue. There is a tsb for it that the dealer will do for free.

Just had the fix completed under warranty. They remove the vacuum pump and take the vacuum directly from the engine. See the following service bulletin. JTB00365NAS1

Hello,

I am going through the same issue now. I sent the TSB to my advisor at the dealership because they seem to be a bit clueless. Carmic when you got this done, did it affect the active exhaust system in any way?? Sounds the same? Works the same?

No issues at all. Works great!

Cheers

What, What? How much do those suckers weigh? Could removing them yield some much needed weight savings? But then we'd have to add back the weight of the new longer vacuum lines...

yes, I have the same issue, told the same thing for repair reroute the vacuum lines byJaguar service advisor. Nothing broken, just the noise.
Please follow up on repairs, how long did it take, was it an overnight stay? So after the repair was done just no more motor noise, nothing else noted?
Thanks for follow -up information.

Happy Motoring...

For me the job was completed the same day I brought the car in. As I stated, no issues at all. Exhaust system works great less the motor noise.

As for the weight savings of the removed pieces, I would say around 3 pounds. Just a guess!

Cheers

Having the same issue, but out of warranty. There's over 2 hours of work for this and some tubing which at a dealer will run you $400 "ish" with diagnostics. I am leaving it for now and decide later.

id keep the noise, it offers the ability to energize the pump pre-start up for a valve closed start up with a remote relay, plus to run from the front lower passenger side of the motor (where the vacuum pump is) is like 15' of vacuum hose to go bad eventually, i'll deal with the buzzing once in a while.

Agreed. Mine is really not that noticeable and once you put it out of your mind you really don't even hear it in most cases.

Perhaps you should be paying MORE attention to your beautiful girlfriend and LESS to your damn car? Come to think of it, maybe you should be also paying more attention to your e-mails [from me] than your car too?
