Matthew, does your X Type have factory Bluetooth or was it installed later? If factory, you may just have a bad mic or a loose connection somewhere. If installed later, the jumpers for the VACM (voice activated command module) connector may need to be installed. If your vehicle has VACM already, then there is no need to install the jumpers in which case I'd go back to troubleshooting the mic or mic connections. Good luck.

Also while trying to get to know my car (routing around) I found this block connector with nothing connected into it under the rear seats... is this something to do with any of it?

If you have VACM installed you should be able to activate it with the button on the steering wheel.
the Bluetooth module has Motorola stamped on it. My VACM unit is black plastic but I think some earlier ones are metal.

Hi folks, late to this thread. Does this allow for music as well as phone calls?

Dont think it does. On mine I see no connection for Bluetooth streaming or anything like that.

Search on this title " Bluetooth Install - Veffremov's Kit"

Bill (or anyone else still viewing this thread),

Can this 7W93-10D893-AB module be installed in a UK 2004 car that has the Jaguar hard-wired phone but didn't have a Bluetooth module? My limited knowledge was that one originally had to fit an early US PSE module + the BTUM to convert an early 2004 UK car to Bluetooth.

I am hoping that this combined 7W93 module is suitable for fitting into an early non-Bluetooth car and dispenses with my existing PSE? This might sound naive but I'm assuming that once fitted, my hard-wired phone will be redundant and won't work with this new module?

Tks in advance for any comments

Paul

Default Question about Mic Choice

Hello-

Using the information in the thread, I added the "upgraded" style bluetooth and the antenna to 04 Xj which had neither.

I have been trying to source an OEM microphone, but have not to this time.

So, my phone module arrived from Poland and my antenna from China and I HAD to get it installed. Having read this thread in the past and noticing that 'any electret should do', I went to Radio Shack and found the following Radioshack - Products

Tech specs: RadioShack Electret Microphone Element (270-0090)

This setup 'works' but the volume from the microphone is low.

For the electret, what are the 'look fors' which might specify better volume performance? Any suggestions other than oem?

Thank you
mag

It is unlikely your vehicle is fitted with OE Jaguar Bluetooth. It was a hugely expensive option which few new buyers chose. The presence of a microphone and steering wheel telephone controls is NOT an indication Bluetooth is fitted.

To check for certain:

1. press the telephone button on the audio unit to enter Phone Mode
2. use the keypad to enter ##3#*#
3. press the Send/End call button

If you do have Bluetooth, the screen will show No BT Phone Connected.

If you do not have Bluetooth there's two options:

1. retro fit Jaguar BT
2. fit an aftermarket BT system

It is pointless to go with (1). The cost would be huge and the system would only pair will a limited number of obsolete phones.

Option (2) allows you to use current technology but has the disadvantage of not fully interfacing with the vehicle audio and steering wheel controls.

As an example, several members have fitted Parrot MKi9200 but there's many others available.

By the way I have been trying to locate a 7W93-10D893-AB module, and the best price I have found is $475. Can anyone help me source this cheaper?

Thanks, Tom
