Default Barn find 420G

i've just purchased a 1968 1 owner 420g, dry stored since 1979, locally registered in my own county (which is almost unheard of, most are uk imports here) car is being delivered tomorrow so ill put up some pictures then. its a pale almost pastel green 100% complete but needs recommissioning and a respray to freshen it up.

here she is as i found her parked in rear of a garage, last tax disc reads december 1975. no rust on floors, sills around screens or lights. some surface rust here and there but very superficial. i have her home in my garage now, removed carpets and underlay as they were rotten and no rot found on floor pans at all. i intend to leave her original colour wise even though its not the prettiest of colours. anyone know what the name of this colour is? also can anyone give me any help regarding opening the bonnet/ hood as i closed it down last night and its stuck fast.......pulled the lever and also the wire to the mechanism, all i hear is the catch moving but no joy!

OK so 'Lifetime Ban' is out the window. LOL

Thanks for the pics, colour, don't know 'from 70s airfix days I'd say duck egg blue' but if you can throw in a colour code there should be a chance.

Or go to the X300 section FAQ, I included a link to colour charts, but they only go back to 1980.

I see that we need a shed load of pictures with this restoration.

My Dad had an early '67 E-Type that colour- my sister referred to it as 'goat-vomit green', although I'm sure Jag had a prettier name for it. Surprisingly, it grows on you!

Lovely car!

The Jaguar name for it I think is Sherwood Green, probably the worst colour after the parma violet they offered in the 70's. I imported a clean V12 roadster from the USA years ago in this colour, a local car dealer bought it and shipped it to his place in Spain (as it was a left hooker) goat puke green is a well thought out alternative! Great car though, they where very popular to break up for E type parts, but now people are saving them.

car started last night runs well unfortunately it was in gear and mounted my series 3 parked in front of it and destroyed the rear bumper and bootlid. im sickened by this rookie mistake, but could have been worse nobody hurt, damage to xj localised.......no damage at all to 420g. im just very annoyed with myself for letting it happen in the first place.

jjd,

Your car shouldnt start at all if in gear due the the inhibitor switch someone has by passed it which isnt safe. This is what can happens when
it is by passed.

I know you are member over on the dedicated symposium to these cars, theres is quite a bit over there about it. Plus I posted a lot of images.

When I had starting problems after everything had been stripped it turned out the wire from the inhibitor switch to the relay had come off.

If you need more assistance on this very dark area, the manual tells you diddly squat, please contact me.
