2000 Lincoln LS 3.9 to Jaguar S-type transplant
I have a blown motor on my 2000 S-type and am having troubles finding a decent price on a replacement motor. I have heard from a lot of people that the Lincoln LS 3.9 is almost the exact same motor and I can find these for a half the price. Does anyone have any experience with transplanting the Lincoln 3.9 into a S-type?

Sorry to hear about your problem.
It may (as in: might) fit - physically - but there are a lot more differences than some people think. Does the LS use the same (as in: the 100% identical) tranny? And PCM (engine controller, which btw is also the tranny one in that era car)? Or are you "just" going to transplant all of those as well?
And if you do, do the cars share ALL the other modules? (You know there are quite a few.)

There are a lot more similiarites than differences. Everything will bolt right up. You may have to mix and match accessories and sensors between the motors.
A guy on the X-type forum put a 3.0 duratec shortblock out of an LS- and all the accessories from the 2.5l into his X, and it runs fine and strong off the 2.5l PCM.

I cannot remeber the member that rebuilt his 3.0 (it was a great write up with pics) but by the time he was done rebuilding the motor he had more money into it than a crate motor would have cost him.
Sorry... my brain wasn't working this morning, I guess. My eyes told it 3.0 not the 3.9/4.0

The 3.9L (3934 cc) AJ30/AJ35 variant is a unique displacement used only by Ford and Lincoln and is built in Ford's Lima, OH engine plant. Bore is 86 mm (3.4 in) and stroke is 85 mm (3.3 in). The AJ35 version introduced for the 2003 model year added variable valve timing of the intake camshafts and electronic throttle control. While the block, crankshaft, pistons, and connecting rods are all unique to this displacement, many other parts are shared with the AJ-V8 engines produced in the UK by Jaguar.
Vehicles using this engine:
2000-2002 Lincoln LS, 252 hp (188 kW) 267 lb·ft (362 N·m)
2002 Ford Thunderbird, 252 hp (188 kW) 267 lb·ft (362 N·m)
2003-2006 Lincoln LS, 280 hp (209 kW) 286 lb·ft (388 N·m)
2003-2005 Ford Thunderbird, 280 hp (209 kW) 286 lb·ft (388 N·m)
Ford Forty-Nine concept
The last AJ35 was produced in March 2006 after only 3 years. Total run of AJ30/35 was nearly 250,000 units

I would say conservatively that the Jag engine and the Lincoln engine are 97% identical.
One thing to note is the EXACT displacement of the engines.
Jaguar = 3934cc = 4.0L
Lincoln = 3934cc = 3.9L
Jaguar Rounded up. :P

Try searching in other sources in order to make that lincoln ls parts that is needed to be changed as a successful one. I hope that things may go out well in order to make things right for your vehicle.

First the Wiki listed is wrong. The 3.9 and the 4.0 have identical bore and stroke. So the 3.9 L is not a unique displacement. It was done so people would not say that Jaguar is just a fancy Ford. But in the early 1999-2002 years it was really close.
Next you better check the VVT. The Lincoln engine did NOT have VVT until 2003 and it uses a different VVT setup than Jaguar. Now the LS guys have used the 4.0 Jaguar engine and disabled the VVT BUT you are going the other way.
To make it work properly you need to swap over the Jaguar heads and VVT gear. I think it can be done but details like this could make it a mess.
