The new ford 5.0 and modular control packs and wiring harness would be under 9k. I just bought a new tranny and it has less than a thousand miles on it. I love s-types but the engines just don't last. The one that seized up had 68,000 on it and it was maintained very well. I guess what I'm trying to ask is if the tranny would match up. I know in 2000 jaguar was owned by ford and the lincoln ls and s-type are very similar.

Once again you are gonna drop 9K plus what you paid for the trans. Then you throw in all the wiring that you are probably gonna need an electrical engineer for. You are gonna have to try and wire the 5.0 with all the Jag systems that are already in the car. Then you are gonna have all that power in a 2000 regular S-type so you are gonna need to upgrade the suspension and the brakes so its safe. This is assuming you do everything yourself. When if you took all that money and just get a STR you will pretty much have the same thing for cheaper. You can get STR for under 20000 easy. I've seen good ones for 15000 and lower in some cases. Just gotta be patient and keep your eyes peeled.

I've had the car since it was new and changed the oil every three thousand miles. It had an oil leak problem, I've heard it's pretty common with the 4.0. I changed all the gaskets and got new valve covers and that seemed to stop the leak problem. While it was leaking I got a check engine code regarding a lifter and had that one changed even though it looked fine. I talked to a jag specialty shop and they told me it was probably a low oil level that triggered the code.
The other day the check engine light came on.I went to the store the next day and when I started it to go home the engine was knocking hard. I had it towed to my regular shop and when we started it up there it idled for a little while and then seized up and now won't even turn over.

If you're going to change engines, your only realistic option is the exact kind you had, so another 4.0. Otherwise cheaper to buy another car.
