Default Looking after my new toy

I have just purchased an S Type with a 3 litre V 6. I am chasing Oil Filter, Air Filter, Fuel Filter, Pollen Filter and all the good service replacement part numbers, including auto service, grease type, anything that people can tell me what to use?

Just looking for guidance so that I keep this vehicle in the pristine condition I found it in when I bought it.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Firstly, welcome to the Forum.

When time permits, please do an Intro in the New Members Area.

Your 2002 may be the X200, or the X202 Model Year. This does make a mdifference to parts etc.

5 speed trans = X200
6 speed trans = X202.

I get my bits from Doug at JagDaim in Melbourne. Service items are generally available aftermarket, but the prices are the same that I have found (and I still work in the Auto Aftermarket Industry).

No grease nipples on the S Type. Its all sealed.

My process, since you asked:

Its a 15 year old car.

Raise all 4 wheels, safety is your responsibility.

Remove all 4 wheels.
Drain, and refill, EVERY fluid in that car. I use Nulon oils/fluids under the Spec they list on their LubeGuide.
Replace the Serpentine drive belt.
Replace the cabin filter.
Check and replace the brake pads/disc rotors. I use RDA here, but your choice.

Kms travelled dictates other items, like Coils, Plugs, O2 sensors, Coolant Hoses, etc.

Heater taps give grief on a regular basis, and being a V6 not that bad to change, still a mongrel, but easier than the V8.

Basically give that car a FULL CATCH UP SERVICE, and repeat in 5 years time, apart from oils.

This has served me very well for a very long time with all my Jags.

Find Jon89's post on regular service items. I think it is in the stickies, but if not, search for it. Good stuff.

Welcome to the forum. As Grant said, make a proper intro so the mods will take notice and upgrade you to full membership when you complete all the pre-req's.

I'm grateful for any guidance. How do I check the difference between an X200 and X202. Is that by the VIN number?

That is one way.

Up to Vin M46254 is the X200 model.

The 5 speed trans is X200. The X202 is a 6 speed trans.

The "horseshoe" centre dash surround is X200. The X202 is restyled a tad more "normal".

The "Growler" badge ON the bonnet is X200. The X202 is incorporated in the Grille.

Thats the quickie ID items.

To add to the above sage advice...buy and use a battery trickle charger like Battery Tender or CTEK, and always keep your battery fully charged (12.6V or above) as low battery will cause all kinds of false-positive error messages.

Default Buying parts / provide VIN Number

Virtually all parts sellers will need to know the last 6 characters of your VIN number, plus the engine size (in your case - 3.0L V6), when selling you virtually any part, so always have that info handy. I've bought so many parts online for each of my 3 S-Types that I have their VIN numbers glued to the palmrest of my laptop LOL.
