Exclamation Problems with battery replaced

I forgot to turn off my 2004 Jaguar X-Type ignition one night and the battery went dead the next day. Really DEAD. So, I replaced the battery but immediately upon connecting the terminals. I got a shock when the horns blared and the headlights turned on! I would very much appreciate if someone of you with a similar experience would advise what I can do to sort out this headache. Thanks.

It's supposed to. Put key in ignition & turn to II or run.
