Default Trunk latch cover

I noted this in another post but could not find it. Sure enough. just a day after reading it my cover fell off in the trunk. Strangely enough, the cover itself appears sturdy but the pins are so thin and cheaply made the tips broke off. I have the auto-closing trunk so it was never slammed.

Another think on the microscopic list for the dealer.

Same here. Part is due to arrive 10/21. I'll see if they changed the latches any.

Please let us know what you find out about the new latch. I looked at mine and it seemed OK but time will tell.

Part was the same as the one that failed. Worse yet, it doesn't stay in place at all! First time I opened the trunk after returning from service it fell off. I'm emailing the service advisor now...........

Did they actually install a new one and if they did then you can readily remind them of the weak pins/screws or whatever holds it in place. Hope the rest of the car is better...
cheers

It's just a piece of plastic. Two arms extend out with latches. In the attached picture of the old cover the near latch is complete and the far one has broken off.

Sadly a component of poor construction and thought. If it had two screw holes and attached with screws it would likely be there for the life of the car. They replaced mine yesterday but I don't have the car back yet.

When you pick it up give the cover a little tug and see if it's solid. They are looking into why the new part failed and think they'll replace the whole latching mechanical assembly along with the cover.

It is solid and seems tight. Hopefully it holds up. But with a 5 year warranty they could install dozens?
