Default Anyone else dented their steering wheel growler?

I must have gotten on the horn hard or something because my growler is dented in, in the middle. Meaning the shape isn't convex but kind of concave. If I could remove it, it would pop back out I am sure but no idea how it is fixed on there. Anyone have any clever ideas?

I have not found a way to fix it yet. You are not alone, mine came dented and did not notice it right away and my dealer says that many have complaint how easy it can be dented. I have another thread in the XK/XKR forum. I ordered a used airbag on ebay but that came also dented and is going back. The decal is fix attached and I do not see how could remove it from the airbag without ruining the leather. A new one, depending on model and interior color can cost you upward of $650.

Yes I saw a bunch when searching after my post. All I did was put the heel of my hand into it to lay on the horn one day. Doesn't take a punch to do it so a warning to all.

I saw some fairly specific notes about the fact that it has tabs that are wrapped and bonded so that means its not something you can carefully pop off. The one you ordered....were you able to see how it is attached? I wonder about something adhesive enough to pull the dent out? Probably unlikely due to the size and rough texture (a suction cup wouldn't hold). Wonder also about a very tiny hole drilled in one of the black areas so you could pull on it? I'm guessing its thin enough material that you would just mangle it.

Yes, I dented it on my previous XF. Silly design. I probably haven't dented this one because I added a 139db mini-air horn to the existing horn(s), so I don't feel like I have to push it through the firewall. Ha-ha.

But, at least the horn is in the middle on the Jag, unlike the vertical horn buttons on the outside of the steering wheel plate on my RRSS. That's a friggin' ridiculously stoopid design.

Could not tell from the airbag I ordered how to remove it. There seems to be no angle to go in an pop it off. I bought the smallest suction cup I could find and no go. I also looked into glue dent pullers and that is a no go too for me at least because of the release agent which they say is "car clear coat safe" but I am not so sure what it would do to the decal or even worse the leather of the airbag. Right now I just live with it. I have other "needs" to satisfy than to spend in my case $650 on an airbag plus install.

Ditto for me, I don't have any idea how it happened.

+1 here...just did it the other day honking at an idiot.
I'll mess with a lot on a car, but when it comes to anything related to the airbag system, I'm hands off.

Does anyone have a photo of a deployed XF or XK driver's airbag?

This decal is clearly deliberately lightweight to avoid injury so I'm interested to see what happens to it during deployment.

Did more dent research this morning. I think the only viable way (strong enough and focused enough) would be glue dent pull on the end of a small dowel. Paintless dent repair using glue pulling is quite common. My only concern in trying it is hurting the finish on the emblem...because if you get it wrong you will be looking at it every day!

Good adhesion with a sharp pull I think would do it.

Before:

After:

The solution was Gorilla Tape. The 1 inch roll of Gorilla brand duct tape. Ripped tape to make it a bit narrower. Stick the tape only into the dented area. Once in place, warm with a hair dryer to get it more pliable then use finger nail or some other hard object to really rub it in (not so hard as to make the dent worse). Let it cool a bit, then pull the ends of the tape lengthwise...like you are stretching it, while also pulling away from the emblem. If you pull the ends perpendicular to the wheel then it will just peel off. If you get the motion right you get the entire surface area bonding and pulling until it lets go and it actually holds quite strongly. Each piece of tape is only good for 1 pull. I pulled about 15 times to get it almost perfect. Its still there but much less noticeable.

Look at you working your magic.

I will give this method a try and give it my best effort.
