Talking AJ16 Fuel pressure regulator

For anyone that is interested.

Reading some Jag stuff over New Years, I noted the Part Number for the fuel pressure regulator on the AJ16 is EBC2606, and that number rang a bell in my dull head.

Went looking and noted that the Part number for the INLET regulator on the V12 HE is the same number, mmmmm. Now that is the regulator on the RH side of the fuel rail, and the one most of us remove, coz on the V12 the outlet regulator is on the LH side of the fuel rail, and that is the one that does the actual regulating.

These regulators do fail, usually old age, and since they are vac modulated, suck raw fuel into the inlet system.

Doug will remember them well, as will some others.

Since the HE is 30 years old now, and many, many posts about flooding are on both Jag forums, and a good number are related to fuel pressure regulator failure, us AJ16 owners might want to take note.

Boy-o-boy do I remember :-)

Interesting about the AJ16 using the same regulator. No sense in reinventing the wheel, I guess.

Actually.....

Not that I'd ever take the time to research it but I'll wager that the vast majority of FPRs...for any/all cars.... all fall within the same basic 2-3 common designs....with only mounting brackets and fuel line fittings varying according to specific application.

I dunno. I'm just musing out loud.

Cheers

You are spot on Doug.

In the aftermarket Parts world I dabble in on a casual basis, the listing for FPR's is LONG, but the brackets are the main difference, then the fuel line attachments, as you said.

The later cars are using what is known as "compact mini" FPR, and plug directly into the rail with an o/ring seal. Again, all are much the same, with the fuel line fitting giving varying numbers.

There is a pressure variance, either 2.5bar, or 3.0 bar.

Of course this list does NOT list every car, and Jaguar does not appear, surprise, surprise, BUT, our Holden Commodore, with the Nissan RB30 engine has the same FPR as the AJ16, PHYSICALLY, and is listed as 3.0 bar.
