Trunk keeps opening
1999 Vanden Plas (X308)
I have seen a lot of posts about trunks getting locked up but I have the opposite problem.
I can close my trunk and seconds later hear the motor activating and unlocking the trunk.
This is very intermittent but regular.
Usually goes away after a couple of closing attempts, not a biggy but annoying.
If I lock the car up then the trunk will not open on its own.
Any help appreciated.

I had a look at the wiring diagrams. Three things will open the trunk; The key fob, the button on the dash, and the button on the trunk.
The two switches both work by grounding a wire to tell the control module to unlock the trunk. Maybe one has a wire chafing to ground.
It also shows a trunk switch, which is probably on the actuator itself. It could be that it locks, but the switch doesn't make, then it tries again?
Do a search for jwj1998en.pdf (that's the wiring diagrams) and look at Fig. 13.2
Oh yeah, pull the trim off the RH trunk hinge arm, and you'll find the wiring harness for the trunk. I'll bet you anything that there are some broken wires in there.
Good luck and let us know what you find.

I'll second the motion about checking the wiring harness on the trunk closing arm on the right side.
Several years ago my trunk/boot lights, license plate lights, and the opener button all stopped functioning. See the thread entitled, "Dead" Boot Button/Lights/License Plate Lights, on the JCNA forums where I documented everything I found and what I did to fix it.
