I have a 08 Super V8 and the truck actuator works, but the latch does not fully deploy to allow the truck to open. I had to use the key and that will open the truck. It closes fine, just wont open when you push the button. Is there a fix or is it time for a new actuator?

When I push the latch closed with the truck open, it looks like it locks, but when I push the button, it only opens halfway. So the trunk lid is not able to open. You can push the trunk lid down and it will close, but will only open about 1/2 inch until the latch catches it.

 

If it's the same as the earlier XJ's the latch is in two parts - mechanical in the middle of the car, and the solenoid part off to the RH side below the lights. Sounds like the solenoid's jiggered! Uncover it and check the rods move, then blast the mechanism with Duck Oil.

 

The mechanism is all in one unit-a motor which moves an actuator.

I just replaced mine with a spare which I had bought previously.

I attempted to repair the old one because the motor was working

and the fault was probably one of the three cams which had got out of sync

but I failed to work out how reassemble it, I am ashamed to say.

Anyone done this sucessfully or have you all got more interesting lives than me? LoL
