Replacement Rubber Seal

Replacement Rubber Seal
I have a problem with a delaminating horizontal rubber seal on the driver door side of my 2001 XK8. It's the seal at the top of the door where the door meets the side window. I'm told that these are not made any more & are difficult to source. Has anyone had a similar problem & come up with an alternative solution? I believe the seal is an integral part of the aluminium trim at the top of the door.

If you also need to refurbish the aluminium when you repair the rubber, this thread gives useful guidance on the process and materials:

Hi Graham,
Tried the tips given on your link & they worked a treat. The trim took all of 30 seconds to remove & from then on it was plain sailing. Epoxy glue got everything back together (left the trim clamped overnight) & had it fitted back on the door in 2 minutes. The whole thing was much easier than I expected.
Thanks again.

Just for the record .................. I think you will find that these seals ARE still available from Jaguar - both door and rear quarter-window for both coupe and convertible.
However, before putting in an order, check the price. In the UK, it will cost the equivalent of around $800 for all four.

That's interesting to know, David. I'd tried e mailing my local Franchise Dealer, who failed to respond! I then asked my nearest Jaguar specialist garage, who was the one who said they weren't available anymore. Sounds like he was wrong. Still, at the price you mentioned, a bit of glue seems a better bet!
