Default Replacement Rubber Seal

I have a problem with a delaminating horizontal rubber seal on the driver door side of my 2001 XK8. It's the seal at the top of the door where the door meets the side window. I'm told that these are not made any more & are difficult to source. Has anyone had a similar problem & come up with an alternative solution? I believe the seal is an integral part of the aluminium trim at the top of the door.

This type of rubber trim glues very well with 'super glue'. I have use a wood toothpick to carefully apply to the tear so it will not show . . . much. Sets in just a moment if applied in small amounts and is as strong as the rest of the material.

Thanks test point, I'll give that a try.

It is and a regular issue with these Waist Rails is the aluminium corrodes owing to poor paint preparation by Jaguar's supplier.

If you also need to refurbish the aluminium when you repair the rubber, this thread gives useful guidance on the process and materials:

Thanks a lot Graham. Had a look at your link - there's a lot of very useful info. there. I'll bed having a go at removing the trim, which should make a repair simpler.

Hi Graham,
Tried the tips given on your link & they worked a treat. The trim took all of 30 seconds to remove & from then on it was plain sailing. Epoxy glue got everything back together (left the trim clamped overnight) & had it fitted back on the door in 2 minutes. The whole thing was much easier than I expected.
Thanks again.

I've repaired mine with black silicone window sealer. It is virtually invisible on the black seal (you can't apply it without 'some' spillage!). I use a bit of blue painters masking tape over the repair to ensure the repair is smooth and it doesn't stick when removing it.

Thanks for the tip. I did mine with 2 pack epoxy, & though it was a bit messy to work with, it wasn't too much of a problem, since I'd removed the trim from the door.

The 97-2006 I think it is, these are not that old relativity. Why the hell are there parts as simple as the seal in this thread hard to get NEW.

I agree. Jaguar are not really interested in providing much spares back-up on models that are not likely to be owned by the original purchaser. They're only really interested in customers who buy their current models new.

Just for the record .................. I think you will find that these seals ARE still available from Jaguar - both door and rear quarter-window for both coupe and convertible.
However, before putting in an order, check the price. In the UK, it will cost the equivalent of around $800 for all four.

That's interesting to know, David. I'd tried e mailing my local Franchise Dealer, who failed to respond! I then asked my nearest Jaguar specialist garage, who was the one who said they weren't available anymore. Sounds like he was wrong. Still, at the price you mentioned, a bit of glue seems a better bet!

Glue is the much more preferable option. But ............ (and no connection or affiliation|) if you look at the S N G Barratt website (forum sponsor so 10% discount) - you will find them listed.
