Don Law Racing, the Only Place to Go for Your XJ220 Needs

Odds are good, if you own a Jaguar XJ220, you know about Don Law Racing.

That’s partly because if your looking to service your Jaguar supercar, “there really isn’t anywhere else to send your XJ220.” That’s according to racecar driver Justin Law, son of Don, who, in the well-shot Praemio video below, speaks at length about the car, and the team that helps keep them on the road.

In the late ’80s, with a recession looming, the XJ220 was launched as Jaguar’s flagship supercar with a promise of a V12 and all-wheel drive. But Jag quickly pivoted to a twin-turbo V6, rear-wheel drive setup. That change, along with tightening global purse strings, made the XJ220 project sputter. Which is sad, because at the time, it was “the fastest car in the world (until the McLaren F1 broke the record in 1998) and the fastest car around the Nurburgring from 1992 to 2000, with a 7:46.36 lap time,” according to CarScoops.

Eventually, Jag and Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) passed the project down to the Laws, including development materials, tooling, designs, prototypes, and test mules. Since they were already racing an XJS with a 7-liter, 700 brake horsepower V12 race engine, they had “Jaguar in the blood,” as told in the video. Then as soon as Jag was off the 10-year hook for supplying parts for the cars, DLR bought them out of their entire stock.

Now Don Law Racing is one of the only places around where you can still get the XJ220 serviced. It’s really a remarkable story, well told in the video below. So check it out, and let us know what you think.
