Five Jaguar Concepts We Wish Had Made it to Production

From luxurious sedans, to stately grand tourers, to sexy sports cars, Jaguar’s archives are full of awesome almosts.

Over the course of its history, Jaguar has crafted some of the most beautiful cars ever made — and I’m just talking about the machines that made it to race tracks and showrooms.

Its design archives are also filled with gorgeous concepts that both showcased historical cues and showcased the future of the marque. So for this post, I’ve assembled a few of my favorites, with an eye toward machines that might have actually been somewhat appropriate for the real world. That means nothing here flies, or is designed for other space, because sometimes designers go there.

Take look at the five cars I’ve highlighted below, and if you think I missed something, shoot me a message on the forum. Whenever I hear from members of our community, I always wind up learning a ton, and I know there’s some interesting stuff I missed.

The R Coupe Concept debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2011, and when I look at the front fascia, along with the obvious S-Type cues, I see lots of nods to the Mark I and IIs or the 1960s.

In Jaguar history, the R Coupe concept is probably most famous for being the first effort from the design team after Ian Callum joined the company. Given the way that the winds are blowing, I don’t think we’ll ever see Jaguar offer a large, luxurious coupe like this.

But the R Coupe is an interesting artifact of a future that never was, and I can’t even imagine how striking it was in person.
