Jaguar’s 2020 XE Refresh Is a Hit with Foreign Markets

India’s Quikr YouTube channel says Jaguar’s 2020 XE interior and exterior updates make this cat a lot more appealing.

India is a very unique market for Jaguar. Bharat Stage emissions compliance is shaking up the entire automotive landscape across the country, according to IndiaTimes. The compliance level of BS6 must be phased in by April of 2020 for auto manufacturers and fuel suppliers as well. The remaining BS4 cars must all be sold before then, and oil companies have to start making BS6 fuel available at a majority of locations. The tricky part comes from some BS4 cars running BS6 fuel, plus, BS6 cars are not backwards compatible with BS4 fuel. Gasoline cars needn’t worry, but diesel cars have a bigger issue due to sulfur lubrication of injectors.

Thankfully, Jaguar’s XE engines are BS6 compliant which, according to the host of this video by Quikr, makes the car “far more appealing.” Jaguar’s 2.0 4-cylinder turbo engine is BS6 compliant, thankfully, so it is already prepared to take on German rivals. Producing 246 horsepower, the host says, “the punchy and linear power delivery combined with really healthy low-end torque gives life to the 2020 XE at low RPM.”

But aside from the engine, the 2020 XE is better to look at, and a better place to be when those pesky traffic jams hit. The host notes, “there are significant changes to this interior, like the 10.2 inch infotainment system, touchpad for the HVAC controls, and a 12.3-inch all-digital instrument cluster.” The things you touch are also new. Gone is the transmission “dial” and in its place is a more traditional lever. As well, there is a new steering wheel with backlit piano black buttons. The host lauds the Xe, saying “the new XE looks and feels a lot more classy, better put together, and a lot more appealing.”

On the outside, looks are updated as well. “The exterior changes to the 2020 XE are subtle but they go a long way to spicing up the XE’s stance,” the host says. That’s due to narrower lighting front and rear, which is now all LED. Just like the F-type, the XE receives a wider grille, and a more chiseled treatment overall. With good looks, good driving and tailpipes that are kind to the environment, we can see why the Jaguar XE is a worthy midsize sedan.
