Just had a double din pioneer avh4300dvd installed. Looks amazing, however when i try to turn the volume up(past halfway) the volume actually sounds lower and becomes distorted...any ideas what could be the problem?

Also it seems to happen just when the car is running???


I took it to this local tint/audio place they couldnt figure it out

 

i am willing to bet, that they integrated to your factory amplifier, and once you get to a certain point on the input stage, it wont give you any more. Rule of thumb is to measure the ouput voltage of the headunit, and match it to the input voltage of the factory amplifier.

 

I'd be skeptical that they tied into the factory amplifier, since that amp uses a fiber-optic connection to the original head unit, and the new Pioneer doesn't have a compatible interface.

My first thought about this was that the installers hooked up one or more speakers out of phase.

But this comment just doesn't support that theory:

If true, this would imply that the installer hooked up a power lead incorrectly. Possibly, they drew power from a circuit that can't deliver the current required for the Pioneer's built-in amp.

I'd have the original installer go back in and review all of their connections.

ahhhh a 2003 x-type. im willing to bet that isnt fiber optic at all (unless it has a cd changer)

does the vehicle have a factory subwoofer??
