Default Connect iPod to cassette audio out on XJ8

I have a 2001 with the Alpine system and would like to get the best sound from my iPod. I am using a cassette adapter for my iPod currently but the dynamic range still sounds far short of the CD player.

Can I tap into the audio out connections from the cassette deck to the head unit and connect a jack? I would still insert the casette adapter into the deck but would not use the audio connection so the tape head would not recieve any signal

Any advice is appreciated, thanks

I have actually done this type of bypass in a Mercedes head unit, but have never been able to figure it out for the Jag without a schematic for the unit.

Your best bet is to use a slightly modified PIE AI_AUX adapter with a PAC LD-10 preamp as described in this thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...e-32776/page4/

Total cost is under $100 plus some time.

What you want to do is fairly easy.
Open up the radio and you will see that there is a separate cassette mechanism inside.
this is connected to PCB of the radio via a 20 pin connector.
all you need is tap in to pin 16,17 and 18(right,left,ground) and you are sorted.

thanks for the replys guys..
WhiteXKR - does the Pie unit have to be rewired? I wasn'tclear if it ws needed or the Pie had to plug into the NAV instead of the CD changer?

Jochemoo - do you know if the ouput (Impedence?) of the iPod is correct to feed directly into the head unit?

thanks

On an '01 XKR, the stock PIE unit can plug between the nav. unit and the premium audio power amp and not need to be modified at all. I think your VDP SC may be similar, but am not 100% certain. If it does not work, you would need to do the circuit board mod. to the PIE described in the link.

Yes you can connect the ipod straight to the input for the cassette unit.

It is a very easy mod and you keep the functionality of the cd changer

The information you posted on the cassette mod is very useful..thank you.

Just to clarify, however, the PIE AI-AUX method does not impair the functionality of the CD changer.

I hope it is similiar just to avoid the mod, but it would be a good reason to buy a good soldering iron.
Thank you for the help

Thank you!

Does this need a tape playing in the player for it to work?

Take care,

George
