Default Hacking the NAVI system

It's just a theoretical point - hasn't anyone ever tried doing something interesting with the navigation system on the 2003-2008 jags? I mean - it's a touchscreen and the GUI is so oldschool...

Wouldn't it be nice to at least have it as a media center looking something like say Zune HD tv out interface: http://www.crunchgear.com/2009/08/14...slick-as-hell/

I usually drive with the black "Logo screen" on, I would really love to use the screen for more than that.

You can use it as a clock if you get the firmware upgrade. Now THATs useful for that 5" screen!

...wait, youve got an S-type, not sure if you guys get clocks or not. sorry. jumped in too quick

There is a clock in the "logo screen" mode. Quite a use indeed for a 5" screen.

As Clarkson says in Top Gear - I went to the internet today and I found this - http://www.navtv.com/product/32/audi...nterfaces.html

I know it's mostly the same thing as the OEM TV tuner, but maybe they could do something neat with it..

I think I'll ask some local geniuses for ideas.

yup, got that NAVtv thingy in my car. Works just great for running different video sources to the screen. I've got mine switched for three sources... jag clock, head unit output, and the garmin GVN53 nav black box.

Maybe you could take some pictures of what that looks like?

And could you plug some sort of a portable device as a TV out?

using the nav-tv interface and the composite video input, you could in theory use the screen as a computer. And get internet on it. However you will need a wireless keyboard and mouse and trying to use a screen that small would make it kinda hard to use with any ease.

Yeah, I imagine that. This would be quite cool. But you could probably find a better setup for web usage.

It would be great if you could use some sort of a unix based setup that would make use of the touchscreen and turn the OEM screen into a better looking media player. I mean I'm sure that everything could look more like the new Jag interface or at least what BMWs, Nissan's or Mitsubishi's have. It's not that I want anything much more.

Audio Connectivity Module (ACM) comes to mind first, from the dealer. Lots of members have it installed and works wonderfully. if you do a search, you'll find some threads on it.

Beechnd,

About half of this page will be of interest to you:

(The other half is about my Dension Bluetooth wild-goose-chase, but you'll figure that out.)

Beechnd,

You might be interested in the iPhone intergration I just did for my 08 XKR. I assume the ACM behaves the same in your XJR as it does in my XKR. I picked up the Kuda mount and DICE passthough dock on eBay for $100 for both.

Pics can be seen here:
