HID Setups
I was just wondering about upgrading your headlights if you don't have the factory HID's that came with Jags. I think I've read around that you can't really just purchase the S Type HID headlights and have them function normally (autocorrecting position etc). I was trying to see what would be the best route to go for switching to an HID setup for the summer. Should I even bother buying the HID headlight housings or should I just get the HID kit (bulbs, balasts, harness)?
If you want to do it as close to perfect as possible, I would purchase the projector/HID headlights, and manufacture some way of levelling the projectors yourself. I have seen a couple posts (in the x-section I believe) where someone locked a threaded bolt into the headlamp rear housing and it was adhered to the projector, making the horizontal position manually adjusted. It is then easy to get an H1 (i think) HID bulb and ballast kit to work with your headlamp.
I would stay away from the non-projector HID kit. Not only will you not like the beam pattern or intensity (nor will anyone else), I believe that one of these days, that issue of HID kits in halogen lenses will be brought into the headlines (hopefully not a tragic accident due to blinding from behind or in front) and the offense will then be finable by our boys in blue. I did the kit in my halogen in my jeep at first, and was extremely disappointed with the light output.
It costs more to do it right, but I think you will be more happy with the results. At least when you buy the new headlamps and kit, you can work on the headlights separately from the vehicle, making your inconveniece less of an issue.

That works also, I think I have seen a few headlight sets I looked at came with bulbs etc. so it would be just a matter of finding a wat to set up the leveling correct?
So I guess it'll just be easier for me to get a hollow HID headlight assembly then right? Then switch out for my stock headlights. Then I can just purchase an aftermarket HID kit and it will come with everything included that I need.
