Mannn thank you. I did remove the trim in the trunk/boot to take a look @everything 1st, as I like to get an idea of what I'm doing, or going to do before I actually get my parts etc.

So, I recall the white gland from when I was seeing how the wires were run from the Nav etc. I just couldn't see past that, & when I went to bother the seat cushion, although I really didn't TRY try, once it wasn't seeming to move, I just said "oh well"..

But this helps my confidence a great deal!!!

 

In the boot there is a white plastic conduit that runs from the Nav to the gland

You can pop the side clips and run the cables inside
You will see this once the trim is off.

PS its under the black foam moulding that protects the air line

Hi, I know this is an old post but I was looking at a way to switch between the internal OEM screen functions and external RGBS input without requiring an external button, thought that reading the button presses using a microcontroller might be the way to do it then found your thread doing exactly that!
Do you have any more information on how this works assuming you completed the project? Quite interested in any pictures or information on the internals of the OEM touchscreen unit in particular where you connected the data lines to the hard-buttons in order to get the levels into the Arduino?

I don't have an external switch.
All the details for doing that are in post 16

Ive dont that 2 ways
1. With the touch controller
2. Using the steering wheel controls

Initially I was using a device to mirror my phone. The touch controler had an output that I used to switch the inputs with. The output was triggered by a hotspot on the screen.
I removed this controler + mirror unit and used it another car

This was replaced by an android black box unit, which I have also now upgraded for a later model but still the same setup

I use the RCjoycon to intercept the steering wheel controls
This unit has relay outputs that are used to switch the video interface
You can read up on the unit but it is programmed by an app on your PC and allows you to remap the resistive outputs of the steering wheel. It has restive, relay (led1&2) and keyboard(usb) out

The USB keyboard goes to the android
The resistive out goes back into the oem harness
The relay out goes to the video interface
I left the standard functions in place adding long press functions for the 3 android buttons. The video interface is switched using the source button.

I also used one of these on the turn stalk to trigger outputs for the side cameras

Thanks 34by151, I read the part about using the rcjoycon, but I was really referring to the part in post 16 where you said you were going to interface directly to the 'audio', 'telephone', 'climate', 'nav' butttons on the OEM headunit and connect these to the arduino to detect the button presses.
I assume then that you didn't pursue this and use the other methods you describe to switch the video input instead?

Thats correct

After finding the RCjoycon I did not have a need for altering the head unit buttons.
I was going to get back to it but found no need after adding functions to the steering wheel controls

I ended up with 3 joycons.
Two on the steering wheel (audio buttons and cruise control)
One on the turn stalk
