Speaker Sizes
Does anyone know the speakers sizes off hand for the speakers in a 1997 XJ6? I need to know what size for the tweeters in the dash, speakers in the front and rear door, and the ones in the rear deck. I want to replace them, but even the jag dealerships can't tell me what the heck they are.
I had it narrowed down to those two already. Crutchfield says 6 1/5, while Best Buy and Curcuit City says 5 1/4. So that's where I'm confused. My mechanic is going to take the doors off today, I was just hoping not to have to pay for the extra labor of just finding out. All three sites showed that the depth is going to have to be under 3" which is a challenge too. Doesn't leave a lot to choose from.
Your right about the go figure part. They were round 6" speakers. They were niether 5 1/4 or 6 1/2. Just straight up 6". I don't know what size the back doors ones are yet, because they don't need to be replaced. Maybe they are one of the sizes above.

I want to say the door speakers are 5.25 (as most door speakers are) although some people cram 6.5 in there. But even in my dad's previous 2000 XJR I think we had 5.25 Alpine door size speaker. The only difference was the 9" sub in the back window I believe. As far as tweeters...your best bet would be 3.5 But check out either CircuitCity.com or BestBuy.com that have car audio departments. I dont know where you are but I think they're both nationwide. But anyways they have FIT GUIDES when you specify your vehicle so you know what speakers, cd players, etc, will work with your car. Hope this helps!! Oh yea, considering I own a '93 XJ6 I replaced my door speakers with 5.25 too. I highly doubt they made the speakersd any better on a '97 XJ6.

my opinion.... dotn take your car to best buy or circuit city unless u wanna waste money. i took mine to a local tint/stereo shop and they refit bigger speakers in the doors(at no extra charge)... i wouldnt trust my car to some 18-22 year old at best buy/circuit city.... your better off taking it to people more experienced and know what theyre doing.
