Steering radio controls for 2005 XK8
I had an Alpine IVA-W505 instlled in my 2005 XK8. All is great except they cannot find an interface for the steering wheel audio controls. They say that nothing works after the 2002 model year. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks for the response. Do you have any specific knowledge that this will work on a 2005 XK8? My dealer says he tried this and could not get it to work.
This is the same one that I used on my JVC deck, just had to program it and it worked just fine on my '03. Yes, it should work.
Great looking receiver BTW.

Thanks for the response. Which model '03 do you have, XK8 or XKR? According to the PAC web site the '03 XKR is supported but not the XK8. I can't imagine why there would be a difference. Furthermore the instructions on the web site for the '03 XKR hava contradiction in them regarding the purple loop wire. Can you tell me exactly what wiring/programming was done to get yours to work?
I would be happy to post pictures but I can't figure out how to do it.Can you point me to instructions?

I have the xk8, so no reason to think your car would be any different. I only programmed the unit to get my buttons to do what I wanted...fairly simple, but I did not do any of the wiring myself. If you get into a pinch, I can give you my installer's number and you can ask him about the wiring. good luck
Thanks. I got a copy of the wiring diagram and I think I have it figured out. I just have to get my installer to give it a try. It appears that they made a change around the '03 - '04 model year.
I think I have the picture thing figured too, so here goes...
I had the IVA-W505 installed with Sirius, iPod A/V, Bluetooth and Blackbird II Nav., using the built-in dock in the IVA-W505. I passed on the CD changer because I am too lazy to open the trunk to change the cartidge. Besides I still have the single player behind the screen.
Notice that the 6 switches between the A/C controls and the radio are missing. Since I hardly ever use them, I had them relocated to the glove box. They are still completely functional. Since I use the seat heaters in winter, yes even in Florida, I had redundant switches installed on either side of the screen. I can't give up all my comforts.
My only problem was the steering wheel controls. My installer said he could not find any info for my car and he tried the set up for the '02 XK8 listed on PAC's web site but it didn't work.
Let me know if any of this fails to post, it's my first attempt with pictures. Thanks again for your interest.

Here's a couple more pictures. I can't figure out how to have them open without clicking but it's better than nothing.

Well, after extensive research and many e-mails with PAC, Ifinally got my steering wheel controls working. I found that my '05 XK8 will workusing the instructions for the '03 XKR found on the PAC web site. Whew!!!
I was getting ready to reply to the first page when I realized there was a second page...I was going to tell you to call PAC as their customer support is actually pretty good at solving any problems you have installing. I want their computer they have as they can pretty much tell you what wire you need to connect the pac adapter to right away...how you liking it so far?
Thought I'd add a follow-up. After 2 months of struggling with the 350BT bluetooth adapter, I finally had it removed and replaced with a Motorola IHF-1000. The Alpine Bluetooth had so many problems it was just not worth the effort. I strongly recommend the Motorola unit itjust works, no special handling of any kind.
.....the radio volume knob in my XK8 (2005) has decided to 'rotate freely' i.e. it turns normally, but there's no 'engagement' of the volume control so it won't adjust the volume at all?!!
I've tried removing the knob to see if it is not engaging, but all seems ok.... the steering wheel controls still work so not a huge problem.... but I'd really like to 'fix' the radio volume control knob too....
anyone seen a similar problem.... and any suggested solution?

Hi, I just ran into the same problem. Did you found out what to do best?
As I see it there are 3 possibilities:
1) replace the whole unit
2) maybe there's a pontentiometer repair kit available?
3) bring it to some friendly hifi repair shop
Cheers from the south of France
