Default Unusual problem, it is made of aluminum

My 2004 XJ8 is, as we all know, built largely of aluminum. I have not tried to upgrade the audio system since the radio and cd players work just fine. I use a clip on blue tooth device for my phone.

The problem is that it does not have a satellite radio. For several years and several cars I have used a portable one that plays through the unused FM channels on the radio.

The problem is that the remote antenna is held on by a magnet, and magnets do not interact with aluminum. So, it does not attach. Has anyone else faced this problem? How did you solve it?

I once had it on an aluminum roofed truck camper, and I used duct tape to attach it to the roof, then ran the wire in through a door opening. However, I do not want to duct tape something on the roof my Jaguar.

Any ideas, or experience?

Thanks,

Tom

I've used a suction cup from an old GPS mount. if not this is the proper duct tape for a jag.

Default unusual solution

Well, I solved the problem. How did I solve it? I watched the weather channel.

I will be travelling in Mississippi and Tennessee. I turned on a weather forecast and they showed a big hail storm approaching that area.

aluminum roof/hood/trunk lid plus hail = disaster. I took the F-150. Hail can dimple steel too...but not as easily.

Looks like I made a good choice. On April 4th Fort Worth Texas was hit by 4 inch hail. That's FOUR inches as in 105MM.

The roofer I talked to had his new F-150 hammered and dented by these ***** of ice.

3M double face tape from the auto parts store. Used to hold mouldings and such on cars.

Clean the surfaces first and stick it on. If you ever need to remove it, a little heat from a hair dryer or low setting of a heat gun should let you pull it right off.

As Charlie recommends go with the 3M double fade tape but note: the standard equipment factory (or more likely dealer) installed sattelite radio antenna on my Super V8 is affixed to the windshield glass. Not a very good pic but it is the silver square located near the driver's side "A" pillar, the top is aligned with the VIN ID Plate.
