Default Gasket for Door Handle

I am slowly piecing my 94 XJS back together after a 5 year long painting project. I vaguely recall tossing the torn apart outer door handle gasket, and it must be true because I cannot find it. I refuse to pay $40 for rubber or foam gaskets, which brings me to my question.

Are these simple gaskets? Are they made out of rubber or foam? Has anyone made their own gaskets for any car and where can you get the material. 5mm thick rubber should do it?

I don't know but I hope someone does because I'll be in the same boat in a few months after my paint job.

The shape/style of the gasket might not be all that easy to duplicate but with some patience (and sharp cutting blades) I'm sure it's doable.

You can find all sort of sheet rubber for sale on Ebay. 5mm sounds a bit thick to me, though, for door handle gaskets.

Cheers

A while back I bought two new door gaskets for my '95. They are molded rubber. At the time I bought mine they were NLA; however, I was able to get one from a supplier and the opposite side off ebay.

the ones in the link are not what I was expecting, or what was in there before. before it was just a rubber gasket without the extruding parts.

I discovered I could cut some of the foam off the door pads under the door panels. It is a perfect height and like what was in there. There is a bevel, so I just cut pieces to fit in the bevel with a little gorilla glue and it works. Ill be installing tomorrow.

Here is what the originals on mine looked like:

It says the part was superceded by this part number. Yet this part number is said not to fit? ? My confusion on all this made me make my own. Yet the correct one would be much better. Mine will probably cause issues in the long term...
