Jaguar Australia Drops Prices - Well Done!
I've been a pretty vocal critic of Jaguars pricing structure in Australia in the past https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...buy-car-75331/
But it seems they are finally doing something about it Jaguar slashes prices by up to $64,500
It's a move in the right direction gents, but you've still some way to go yet, ease into it over the next 2-3 years and you will succeed!

Not sure that's such a change. Was very close to those prices recently, 3months ago
Was going to replace the XJR with a new one.
Ended up deciding to keep the current one not because of the price but the new interior
Money now spent on a bigger toy
Interesting the the XF has been selling well for some time.

Major changes will have to be done incrementally, you can't just cut your prices in half overnight, think about how upset someone will be if the (very expensive) car they bought a few months earlier had suddenly lost half it's value. Not good for repeat sales.
A reduction of 10% each year over a few years doesn't hurt as much. Imagine how many XFR's could be sold if they were around $120K, it's not such a big jump from the HSV GTS & FPV GT's, you can't deny some HSV & FPV customers would find the extra money somehow to get into an XFR...
And as for the new XJ, at the current prices they are lucky to sell any at all. People with that much money to spend on a car are usually quite astute & in big business, they don't take kindly to paying double what something is worth...
XJ Supersport SWB = $143K in England, $320K in Oz, still a long way to go...

I didn't, I was comparing the HSV GTS to the XFR, not the XJ....
And why not?
A fully-loaded GTS or Senator will set you back ~$95K, a fully-loaded GT-P is around $87K
You can't honestly say that the XFR is worth more than double either of those.
And performance wise neither of them is far behind the XFR, in fact a few tweaks in the aftermarket will see the performance of both the GTS & GT-P eclipse the XFR. Tech-wise the locals aren't too far behind. The difference is luxury, build-quality, and brand image.
If they put the XFR on the market at $120K they wouldn't be able to keep up supply...just my opinion...does JLR want to sell cars or not?
And there is no denying that everyone will still turn a profit at that price.
At $120K the LCT would only account for $19K, GST of 10% only compared to the 20% in the UK, ok there are legitimate costs for shipping, sales channels, etc. But no way to justify double the price.
The XJ has no locally-made competition in Oz, no argument there.
Some further reading Why do Australians pay so much for luxury cars
Jeez i was positive about this yesterday, and now back to the negativity...

Interesting that both are considering dropping the lines as sales are plummeting.
Lots of the customers have moved away to the low end German cars
The HSV/FPV are near double the price of the base models, for a chip and a spoiler now that’s a rip off
None of them are anywhere near refined. There was a time they were value but the 80's have long gone
My point being that the Jag prices are on par with other brands in the class and the Holden/Ford even with the HSV/FPV plastic tackons are not in the same class
BTW got my first drive of the F-type V8 on Friday
In the Jag lineup I'd say the its the cheaper version of the XK changing the lineup from 3 to 4 models. Just like the xtype/xf was the baby brother to the XJ
I think it will sell well here just like the xtype did and the xf has
Is it for me no but the wife likes it. I'd prefer to wait and see what replaces the XK
Its time soon to replace her SL55-AMG and the FtypeV8 is on the cards.
I'd prefer to wait for an XK replacement but if it comes down to replacing the Merc or waiting, I'd push the misses to the Ftype
Cheers
