Default Moving a non runner?

Hi All,
Well it looks as if I have bought myself a nice rust free XJ-S from an eBay seller.

The issue is that it's in Melbourne and I am in Southern NSW just outside of Canberra. The car does not start so it cannot be driven.

Now I could borrow a 4WD and car trailer and have a couple of days off driving about 1,600km to go and get it but I'm a little ill at the moment and sitting in a car for that long may cause me some physical pain.

So I got thinking about the cost and ramifications of getting it trucked up here.

Anyone got any advice for me on that option? Who to use? who not to use? Cost? (about $700 I have found so far).

Any input will be appreciated.

Thanks, Jim...

Hello Jim; I'm sorry your query slipped through to the keeper with no response as yet. Is it "long weekend-itis" or you have us all stumped. I don't believe either, but I have no southern contacts to recommend.

Perhaps this bump will help. In the meantime, let me extend a warm welcome to our ranks and invite you to tell us a bit about yourself and your Jaguar. Photos are always welcome ... most of us are well trained to keep our drooling off the paintwork!

Best wishes,
Ken

Jim,

I have a guy that my "old" mate uses to bring cars to Adelaide from all over, and is GOOD, and PASSIONATE, and RELIABLE.

PM me and I will give you his details if you still need it.

My apologies for not seeing this back in April.

Thanks guys but I borrowed a mates Nissan Patrol and took my car trailer on an arduous ~20 hour round trip and picked it up on Anzac Day.

Now I just have to get the seller to send me the missing parts of my "complete car" that he found in his garage after I asked him where the rest of the car was.

Regards, Jim...

Hi Jim;

I hope the missing parts weren't the necessities like engine, drive-train, wheels etc ...

Please let us know how the project develops and some before/after pics would be great ...

Best wishes,

Ken

At first glance the missing parts are grille, panel under front bumper in front of the radiator and both air cleaner assemblies.

The car has had both head gaskets replaced and it looks as if putting the heads and inlet manifolds back on is as far as he got as nothing on or around the engine appears to be plumbed or wired up.

The drivers window won't shut either so I'm going to have to remove the door trim and "hot wire" that to close it.

Either way I have an engine to put back into a Valiant so I can sell it off and a Subaru to strip and dispose of before I lay a finger on the XJ-S. Purely a discipline thing that order of proceedings.
