Default S Type J Gate switch/solenoid

Good morning to everyone in Oz - I have just bought this beautiful car and the stuck in park thing had been an unwelcome idiosyncrasy I am working my way through. I have had the parking pawl replaced to eliminate that major drama, but now the switch is maybe being temperamental. Has anyone is Oz sourced one? Where did you get yours from? No use me reinventing the wheel. Prestige Spares hasn't got a second hand one, let alone new.
Thanks for any input. It's part number JLM21993 according to the SNG parts catalogue so I'm assuming it is a separate component.

Hi Barbara ...

Switch ("maybe" is a worry) or nylon block which tends to scuff, eventually catch, before finally breaking ... for which someone o/s makes a metal alloy replacement ... better than oem. From your threads elsewhere, and Grant's suggestion to "silicon" your nylon block to cure sticking pawl. are you saying this is a separate albeit related problem?

If I am off-song, then sorry. But if not, and it is the issue of a damaged block ... I read in the S-Type threads within past 2 weeks (you may wish to check) OP was reporting a fault like yours ... helped to id a broken block ... and one of the replies directed OP to another member who designed/produces/sells the metal replacement.

As for Oz, and I guess you have checked Barbagallo and Roadbend without success ... I have always been impressed with JagDaim in Melbourne suburbs for tracking down hard parts. It may sound dumb, but try Google the part (repeat after opening international ... then repeat again using specific UK and US Google). I see them available in UK for GBP137 and in US for $207. Shipping from the US may be a killer though. Here's where the model specific forum really helps.

Next option ... look to the wreckers. Currently seeing damaged early S-Types being broken up ... check the parts sections of both eBay and Gumtree.

Last option ... send a PM in order, to Sydney based Mod Cameron [Cambo351], who has lots of experience sourcing parts; then [Grant Francis] in Adelaide; finally Clarke [o1xjr] in Brisbane. Don't be bashful on this. They are great guys all ... otherwise I wouldn't take the liberty. And please keep us posted on developments. I do hope all this helps.

Best wishes Barbara Kay,
Ken

Thanks for the reply Cat - the only option it looks like the problem could be is the switch/solenoid/interlock, i have heard it described a few ways. The white plastic slider block is fine just a little dry so I lubricated it. I'm taking the car into my auto transmission guy next week, he has been a specialist in the auto Trans field for years, and has worked on Jags, and had come across this problem before. Because it's intermittent now it'll be tricky to diagnose but with the pawl replaced, the slider block lubed I'm running out of options.

Next thing to look at will be the rotors and pads, I'm hoping there will be something on the wear limits in specifications somewhere on the forum, I'll do a bit of searching this evening.

I will definitely keep the forum in the loop, as one other person posted, there are hundreds of 'sick in park' threads but no definite answers.

Cheers and enjoy the day
Barb
