Hi, i'm first time jag owner from Brisbane, originally from Tauranga,NZ.(25 years in Bris).
Just found my way to the Australia/New Zealand section tonight.
Bought a series 1 XJ6,got it registered a couple of weeks ago and took the family on a 4 day 750 mile road trip to test it out,all good so far.
It's in the paint shop now having boot touched up.(been parked in a north facing carport for years).

Hi Clarke, and greetings from down south on the Coffs Coast.
I know that Dave will be along to give you a big "Welcome" to the Aus/NZ section, but I just wanted to chime in with same.
It's great to see another of the classics entrusted to an enthusiast, and I know you will get plenty of tech help in the relevant forums. How about sharing some of the car's history - miles? more pics inside and out? What do the fam think, after your road trip?
You have to understand, Doctor, as addicts some of us get withdrawal pains
Best wishes,
Ken

Hi Ken & Rob, thanks for the welcome. I don't know much of the cars history, the log book is in the boot at the paint shop at the moment. from memory I it was sold new in Tasmania.
Starter motor was rebuilt in Wagga Wagga in 1996 going by the sticker on it when I replaced it last week. The previous owner had it for a couple of years, was traded at the Toyota dealership he worked at in Brisbane, was supposedly in the same family since 1974 prior to that. Upholstery has been done in cloth and vynal ,but dash, and door trims are original leather. The only inside pics I have are from the gumtree add.
Odometer reads 7000 mls(could have been around many times). When I buy vehicles I don't worry about millage, I go for a drive and rely on my gut feeling. Only been burned once in 30 odd cars and as many motorcycles using this method of buying. To be honest, when I told the guys at work I was buying it they said what is the Millage? My answer was "don't know, didn't look".
The family enjoyed the days away, visited a lot of small towns in the D'Agula range,Blackall Range and Ironbark Range north of Brisbane, kids(15 & 17) missed the aircon but liked the car, daughter on L's is waiting to do some hours in it. Got to fix the sticking accelerator first, and 15yo son is planning road trips already for when he gets his L's later this year.

Hi there, what caught my eye about this XJ6 was it is straight and a complete car,so no hunting down missing bits. Its got a little rust under rear screen. In the paint shop having boot lid and right rear door touched up, don't plan on doing a lot to it at the moment except drive it, didn't want to pay big$$$$ for a mint one to leave in the garage, want to drive it and park it anywhere i feel like without worrying about my investment.
Having said that I've been known to inject funds into many a vehicle before with no prior plans to do so.
Just wanted a Jag to drive around as a daily as the Mazda3 just doesn't do it for me and the Jeep is my play thing. The wife thought I meant "new" car, not another car.
Stripping one out next week for parts, all lights, dash, indicator switch, wipers, and bumpers for $100, other bits I see that I want I will buy while I'm there

That's not a bad looking Series one you've got there Clarke. Silver is one of the best colours on these. The retrim looks a bit 80's but I guess very servicable for your needs at the moment. Would be nice to put a repro leather interior kit in it when funds allow. Keep us updated on your progress on the XJ series I/II/III board. Davo
